Trouba will not sign long term with a Canadian team. Not sure why people don’t understand this. Toronto....maybe. None of the others. The whole right side/playing time was a cover, he does not want to be in Canada for personal and family reasons. He can’t exactly come out and say that though.

Sad to see him go as he is just coming into his own, but the need for a puck moving RHD is too huge to ignore with nearest help 2 years away (Bouchard should spend the entire year in the AHL, needs to have limited and sheltered minutes in his 1st full year in the bigs).

Curious, what's Trouba's scouting report on your end?

I know Nurse' outlet passing is lacking, and his hockey sense doesnt scream top-pair.
Other than that, he's fantastic.

If that's the case, then Trouba can stay in the 'Peg. Would be more than happy to keep the trade package and try to sign a UFA (Tyler Myers most likely) to a 24m/4yr deal.

Klefbom - Larsson
Nurse - Myers
Jones - Persson
Lagesson

That doesnt sound so bad while we wait for Bouchard.

Problem with that there statement is that you're over valuing your AHL d-men thinking they're at minimum a 20pt NHL dman with 200 games under his belt.

With your team penny pinching to sign their actual best forward, and to a contract that would need to be near Tavares range, you're gonna need an NHL d-man whose cap-hit doesnt start with a "2".

So please, save the "we already have minor-leaguers better than him" argument for someone else.

Thank you for pointing out the cap situation because I had no idea, but while your at it... do you think it is smart to spend almost 2 million in cap on AHL d man??

LOL? If you think you're getting out of the first round deploying what would essentially be 3 rookie defensemen (5, 6, and 7th dmen), then I really shouldn't be surprised because you're a (delusional) Leaf fan. But hey, "tHe CuP iS OuRs To LoSe" this year right? Would you like a chance at an early "I told you so" by predicting a Leaf Cup win this early on with your back-end saviors I mentioned above?

As I said, though not top 4 talent but a bottom pair, Benning still has 200 NHL games under his belt playing on average 16 minutes a night. And that's something no amount of nepotism can hide.

Was he over-deployed at times? Yes.
Will he ever be a top 4 d-man? Nope.
How many minutes should he actually play? 13-15.
Will he be effective when only playing those minutes? Definitely.
