Anaheim needs more than that, and where is everyone getting 8.5 a year from? Marner is getting at least 10.

I don't think he's doing 3 years. Matthews and Nylander both expire at either their 1st or 2nd year of UFA eligibility. Marner will want the same thing and Dubas seems to be okay with that, so he's probably getting 5 or 6 years.

Why would Anaheim increase its cap hit by $4.175M just for a fourth-round draft pick?

Trouba is not signing for more than 1 year with any Canadian team, he is planning to hit UFA asap.

This kills that trade instantly

If that's the contract Trouba signs then this is ridiculously one sided for Toronto.

They are a budget team. Marleau's salary is less than Eaves even though his cap hit is higher. Both teams are benefiting from the trade however the pick is still going to Anaheim since they are also getting Toronto out of a sticky situation. Anaheim and Toronto have a good trade history between each other.

Please elaborate?? Winnipeg is getting a great cost controlled 2C and a very promosing with top-4 potential (if he's not already at that come next year). Trouba's time in Winnipeg seems to be coming to an end and Toronto is close to his hometown state of Michigan

Well, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. I know nothing will happen with Marleau until July 1.

Madrid's contract is the only thing that puts him ahead of value with Trouba, and Roslovic is younger then Dermott and in my mind has more potential if given proper top 6 minutes.

So basically Winnipeg saves money but gets older, gives up the best player in the trade and makes thier team worst. Kadri and Dermott are good but Toronto would still have to add in order to beat out other teams offers. I mean Detroit fans are talking about giving up 6th overall for him, dont think they should but I have seen it suggested on Twitter.

The 6th overall everyday of the year for Trouba...except Detroit. They're terrible and that trade is pointless...unless Yzerman can magic away half the roster.

Sean Avery must love on this fuss kicking up by his non factual rumour of Trouba coming to the Leafs. Certainly the Trouba extension is so farcical.

Un insured contract remember. Paying Eaves to retire basically. At least they get a body and after July 1st Zaitsev is paid 3 mil bonus

Madrid's contract . . .

One of my all-time favorite auto-correct "corrections."

And here on CapFriendly. I had a discussion this afternoon and our consensus was that Trouba plus Mason Appleton would get you #6 overall, and you'd have a choice between three of Cozens, Dach, Krebs, Turcotte and Zegras (whoever was left after two of them got picked ahead of you). How do you feel about that now?
