Can a Vancouver AGM even exist anymore without that transaction...

I tried that trade in a AGM of my own a few weeks ago, and buffalo fans lost it on me. Even though I think Sutter works perfectly there, they just won't budge on it. I think that trade is legitimate though. Maybe add a 4th or 5th in Buffalo's direction.

Well that's an overpayment. But whatever. Some BUF fans seem to like their current pace and the draft lottery being the highlight of their every season lol.

Well it's a retooling process. Gives them a couple of assets for now and also strengthens their future.

It really doesn't help the future. It adds age to the group and very little picks in retuen while giving up a 22 year old and 2 26 year olds while adding a 29, 27 and a 29 year old. That doesn't help the future.

Yes and no. Those assets are signed long-term. In a longer scale, they're going to help your future as well as they're helping now. I'd say that the team in this form is closer to being a playoff team than what it was this year.

And Tanev is injury prone.

Tanev is just too injury prone, paying a 2nd 3rd and Timashov to get pretty much the same player with no offensive side who will probably play half a season doesn’t really help our cap situation if you have to replace him.

I get the idea of replacing zaitsev and getting out of his term. It’s not a horrible idea.

Fair enough. What should VAN add to make it acceptable?

I'm guessing primarily due to Tanev's injury history. Even if Tanev is a top 4 defender we wouldn't get him for almost half the season, inluding the playoffs.

I think it could work. Realisticially I don't expect to get all much for Zaitsev, so it really comes down to what a retained Tanev's value is. 2nd + 3th + Timashov might be a tad high given his injury concerns but I don't think its completely over the top. Maybe make one of the picks conditional on games played in the playoffs.

That’s a tough one. I just don’t see dubas being in on tanev.

If there were any Dman from the Nucks coming back it would be stecher. We would add kapanen they would add maybe a 2nd or a prospect.

If I were going to deal zaitsev I would just take a 4th or a 5th back. Maybe just 1 for 1 with Biega.

Honestly I can't see teams taking Zaitsev without shedding some cap themselves, cuz that contract is relatively big and not exactly a positive one for teams to have. He should be used as a part for a bigger trade as a piece to even out the cap. That's how you'd get the most value out of him, anyway.

Yup, I agree. Vancouver has no need to balance out the cap. By the time they are ready to spend to the cap the contract on zaitsev looks better.

I saw another trade where we take spooner back. Now that is horrible. Your trade isn’t bad just don’t see dubas jumping at it. I could certainly be wrong though.

Lol Spooner. Zaitsev might be overpaid but he's not an AHL player come on...
