Why would Johnson be inclined to sacrifice himself in order to fix Tampa's financial issues? He's earned his NTC, he can stay put if he chooses. It's up to the team to make the cap work around him.

Johnson, Gourde, Palat, Killorn, and Miller will all be approached to compile a list of teams they do not want to go to. Toews and Kane often don't play on the same line, so more than likely said player being dealt would not be playing on a line with both of them. However, even if they were, I would say that a player playing on the team that just tied the NHL record for wins in a season probably doesn't want to leave for a team that hasn't made the playoffs since 2017.

Why wouldn't NJ trade a 2nd and 3rd for the much better Johnson instead of a 3rd for an older, inferior Anisimov??
