OOOOF

What a bad signing. 9 Million for a guy who has a season high of 63 points. He put up 40 goals, but only had 17 in the final 42.

As bad as this seems and unless the details of the signing change, I see no NMC. So... He may be overpaid but if he doesn't work, he can find himself getting traded no strings attached.
Edit: NEVERMIND. THIS IS GONNA HURT.

I wouldnt be happy if my team paid 9M per year for him. AAV is too high right now but since it's a long term deal it may turn out to be decent value if the cap rises a lot the next few years.

9 mil for a guy who's had too 5 5v5 goals in recent years, it's fine.

No NMC because the contract isn't confirmed. We will see what he gets in terms of signing bonus/salary structure/clauses within the next 48 hours. Nobody is going to trade for that contract.

Since it's a long term deal is even worse. He is being paid 9 million until he is 35. If I was a sabres fan, I would be pissed at this signing, but 40 goals is 40 goals I guess.

Still doesn't justify the monster contract IMO

Some ppl are giving 5 x 11,634M for that kind of stats......with that in mind 8 x 9M still looks like proper contract

Some people getting those contracts are 22 and have been consistently doing that since 18. Skinner on the other hand...

This contract is a big oof. An understandable one, but still an oof.
5@9 would have been much better if he wanted the aav, 8@8 would have been fair if he wanted term, but who else was Buffalo gonna pay? Not Panarin lol.

Skinner was paid 1M per 10 points ( as the simple dumb-proof equation in League since Cap era ) for his first 6 years out of ELC....i bet you can do the math how much that kind of contract should be in Matthews case......

Never mind Bowman and Chiarelli....

I guess they got tired of being **** and want to win now. I definitely see them regretting this contract though.

Skinner is in his prime (wont get better). You are also paying Matthews for what he will become. The contract isn't a bad one, at the worst it is under-termed, but I have been doing some digging and I've come full circle on the Matthews contract.

Its fair. Not an overpayment, not a discount, fair.

Makes me hope Montreal stays away from him. If Duchene uses this as collateral, he will get 10.5 +

I’d say 10.5 max. Probably has an AAV somewhere between there and this contract.

Which is on pace for 33 in the second half, on a team that struggled to score. I don't know what your issue is with that scoring pace.

Actually i just figured Boterill gave Eichel 8 x 10M on top of 57 + 56 Season ( dont know how that went under my radar always quotting Eichel as the biggest overpayment curentlly )....no surprises anymore, thought it was a slip now i can claim he joined Bowman, Chiarelli and Dubas club now....tho at least most of them are pulling 8y contacts out of it......

My Issue is he's a very streaky scorer with little chance he hits that pace again. This just shows Buffalo desperation. Realistically, he's a 30 goal scorer and had a great year. He's 27 and 8 years is a long time.
