Actually i just figured Boterill gave Eichel 8 x 10M on top of 57 + 56 Season ( dont know how that went under my radar always quotting Eichel as the biggest overpayment curentlly )....no surprises anymore, thought it was a slip now i can claim he joined Bowman, Chiarelli and Dubas club now....tho at least most of them are pulling 8y contacts out of it......

atleast in Eichel you could see the elite player underneath it, It was a risk but people understood it. We all knew skinner was a speedy guy who could finish but isnt an elite player and he showed it. 9 million no way

2020-21 SEASON

$10,000,000 = Eichel
$ 9,000,000 = Skinner
$ 9,000,000 = Reinhart
$ 7,000,000 = Montour
$ 6,000,000 = Okposo
$ 6,000,000 = Mittelstadt
$ 5,500,000 = Ristolainen
$ 5,500,000 = Sheary
$ 5,000,000 = Bogosian
$ 5,000,000 = Ullmark

$68,000,000 = 10 PLAYERS

Matt Moulson is now UFA too. How much will they be offering him this time around? Hahaha! Remember, he had 3 straight 30+G seasons w/ NYI and Tavares before he was signed by BUF for $5M AAV. Unless Skinner consistently totals 35+G and 65+points this deal will blow up in their faces too. Does anyone really think he'll be at those numbers in 4 years? What about 6 years?

What are they thinking? He's good but not worth 9 mil. Huge overpayment, highway robbery for Jeff.

Jeff Skinner has: More goals, better possession numbers and better expected goals
Mitch Marner has: More assists and p/60(again, driven up by assists)

I'm not saying the Skinner deal is good, but what I am saying is that 1) Goals are valued more in terms of money 2) Marner isn't great in his own end 5v5 3) He isn''t near a generational talent.

Ya trying to compare Marner and Skinner is way off. Marner is a lot better then Skinner is. Marner also plays penalty kill and drives play, Skinner doesnt do either of those things. Add in the age difference, the fact that Marner is entering his prime and Skinner is already his prime and that Leafs are in more of a national stage and you get Marner wanting $11 million.

I had him down for for $7.5-$8.0M per on a 6y (maaaaybe 7y deal). Even that would be a risk and a likely overpayment, which was all but guaranteed as he’s coming off a career year. But this - $9.0M for 8y - it’s just bananas. I smell buyout, compliance or otherwise, in 4 years tops.

.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the Raptors will defend their NBA Championship with this roster:

Kawhi Leonard
Anthony Davis
Pascal Siakam
Marc Gasol
Kyle Lowry

Fred VanVleet
Danny Green
Serge Ibaka
OG Anunoby
Norm Powell

I had him 7 x 6,5M...he only busted 60 points three times out of nine in his career....

Why would they give Sheary 5.5, or Ullmark 5, or keep Bogosian @ 5? Those are positions for replacement players. I just saved 15.5 million off your total.

He's a 6.5 or 7 million area player. 8 years is way too long BUT this is what these players are demanding and they are going to get these crazy deals because teams are afraid of loosing them especially in cities like Columbus or Buffalo or Ottawa where players aren't as excited to live and play in. I love Buffalo but players who have the choice of playing in Tampa Bay, FL (no tax plus beaches) compared to NY (high tax and no beaches) will demand more money in these type of states. You really cannot blame them.

That's what YOU would do ....

The REAL decision makers just gave Skinner $9,000,000 x 8 years.

My projections remain correct.

The Buffalo Sabres just screwed the UFA market.

Thoughts and prayers to whoever wants to sign Duchene or Panarin now.

Sabres **** the Habs

Honestly, I think the Habs are smarter to sit this year out and let the farm develop instead of overpaying a UFA. Does Duchene make the Habs cup contenders? Probably not. Does he hinder their future cap situation? Absolutely. Habs have some really strong prospects coming up, and I just think it would be smarter to make a few minor signings and wait for the team to start making the playoffs again before going all in on a big name FA.

OOOOF

What a bad signing. 9 Million for a guy who has a season high of 63 points. He put up 40 goals, but only had 17 in the final 42.

I don't think I've ever seen a more negative vote on a player with such a huge contract. As of this post, over 85% of voters believe this to be a bad contract for BUF.

It's a very bad signing. it's too long and too high of an AAV. Signings like this shows why Buffalo has been bad for so long. They simply can't learn from their mistakes.

I think they have a tough road ahead next season. What will they do w/ Risto? Should they trade him? He's been pretty terrible defensively and Dahlin is clearly gonna QB the PP.

Who do they replace him with? I wouldn't advise that they trade him, but it all depends on what they can get back. It would have to be an NHL ready player considering that they can't develop for ****

I think he'd bring a solid return given his right handed shot, his manageable cap hit, and his offensive upside. His +/- (-41 in 2018-19) could be more a result of poor team defense, but Bogosian was only -5 this year and Scandella was only -13. Like you said, BUF hasn't developed very well so they'd need an established young player to replace him. Sometimes guys need a change of scenery to mix things up a little bit.

Nice try but that's just Leaf propaganda to make Marner take less tears of joy

Leafs propaganda or league propaganda? Based on contract history around the league its pretty evident which position is favoured. There's an interesting article on The Athletic examining it.
