Ghost averages more points per 82 as a dman than Drouin. Everyone should stop pretending that this anywhere close to a straight swap.

No way that you get close to Patrick for danault.

I’d give you MacDonald for a 5th... or just as soon bury him in the pressbox or AHL.

tl/dr: Flyers say no.

I agree that a Ghost/Drouin swap doesn't make sense on its face, except the Flyers have a glut at LD and the Habs have a glut at LW. Taking MacDonald's cap hit for one year is worth a little something but I'd agree that the Habs would have to sweeten the pot a bit with a decent prospect.

Patrick has done little to suggest he's heading toward a breakout season, but he's certainly a good NHLer. At the same time, Danault is in his prime and sits comfortably among the top Selke contenders in the league. So if the Flyers are looking to raise their chances for THIS SEASON and the next 2-3 while Giroux and Voracek are in their primes, taking Danault over Patrick makes good sense. The flip side is, if the Flyers are building around a core of Couturier, Hart and Konecny, dealing Giroux and/or Voracek makes sense. It's not a crazy trade, but it does come down to priorities.

Exactly. This trade is based on priorities. IMO Giroux isn't gonna go anywhere cause of his NMC, except for a contender but most contenders probably can't absorb his cap hit unless PHI retains about half of it.

I'm only taking MacDonald's contract so the Flyers have more room to sign Hayes.

As for giving extra assets, i got my untouchables. If PHI wants to settle for the other ones then I'll bend. If not, then I'll give an extra mid-late pick.

Let's not act like the only option that Philly has is trading assets to MTL for under fair value. You are nowhere close with Drouin and Danault for Ghost and Patrick. If this happened in real life, there would be dozens of articles that struggle to justify the move other than Philly selling low on two very good assets.

A MacDonald buyout would cost us ~$1.2mil in dead space this year. That to me is worth a 5th round pick.

https://montrealgazette.com/sports/hockey/nhl/hockey-inside-out/analyze-this-case-can-be-made-that-phillip-danault-is-canadiens-mvp here this article will help justify part of that hypothetical trade. Rarely there's a trade that looks fair on the surface.
