If you want to do this properly, take out Klefbom (Penner trade to L.A.) and take out Ethan Bear (Petry trade to Montreal).

I understand the Bear thing, but why are we undoing the Penner trade?

Let's see, Riley Nash got traded in 2010 while Klefbom was selected in 2011.

So if he wants to bring back Riley Nash, we have to undo the Penner trade.

The two trades are unrelated?

If you're going to be that anal about it, any player Edmonton drafted after Draisaitl's draft year can't be on this list. There's so much up in the air about points and lottery position that you can't guarantee that a pure hindsight roster lands a McDavid or anyone who came beyond.

Yes they are unrelated, but he is bringing back Nash, who got traded in 2010, then you would have to undo the Penner trade that brought in the draft pick that became Klefbom as Penner was traded in February of 2011.

And yes, all picks would have to be omitted as we can't say for certain that we would have even got Mcdavid and others.

The pick Nash brought the Oilers was used on Marincin. The picks brought in from trading Penner were used on Klefbom and Zykov. There's no link between the trades, and if you're looking at strict "make only good moves" trades, then you don't have to arbitrarily get rid of Klefbom just because the trade occurred after the Nash trade.
