The reward to the Kings for taking on Marleau's $6.25M cap hit would be Jeremy Bracco? Wouldn't Los Angeles be better off taking that money and signing Tyler Myers, and keeping the third-round draft pick?

Some of these Toronto fan AGMs kill me, man. So we're just going to hand over Sundqvist for scraps and then you don't even sign him or put him on the roster?

The Blues cannot contain their laughter as they hang up.

I here ya on Myers but LA is clearly going in a younger/rebuild direction so i cant see them being active in the UFA market as far as top UFAs go. LA is going to be on the buyout/trade market to get younger. So Toronto and LA would be natural trade partners. LA takes Marleau a 1.75 mill salary with a 6.25 cap hit for one year. So its a great deal for LA as they get a top prospect and only have to pay 1.75 mill for him. Cap hit means nothing to a rebuilding team.

The only reason the King wouldn't spend 6.25m cap money on another player besides Marleau, maybe they don't want to go all in a UFA this year. Saving that cap for next year on maybe someone they really want or a bigger choice of UFA int the futures. With Marleau, without Marleau, with Myers, without Myers, Kings look like they aren't a playoff team next season. Sorry LA residents.

Why your position is objectively, demonstrably wrong:

(1) Myers is 29, an age at which defenders are reaching their prime. Marleau is 39.
(2) Marleau takes up a slot in the 23-man roster, thereby immediately raising the average age of the team by a year and a half and preventing a younger player from getting NHL experience. There has to be a better reward for the Kings than a prospect whom Marleau is blocking from reaching the NHL.
(3) Cap hit means a lot to a team near the ceiling, whether it's a contender or a rebuilding team. Just ask Edmonton.

"Going all in" implies a one-shot deal. Myers would be Los Angeles' #2 RD for the next four years, so I assume that he would be a player the Kings would go after if not for cap restraints. And boy are you right that no matter what Blake does this off-season, the Kings are in the LaFreniere sweepstakes.

Just because Marleau is aquired doesnt mean he will even play. Also your second point is short sighted. My point is LA should be using their position to ultimately go in a younger direction. No player has ever been hurt by spending and extra year in the AHL. To your 3rd point Edmonton isnt in an offical rebuild. Its the same as saying the Leafs are still in a rebuild. LA is in blowup mode. My reference to cap space meaning nothing to a rebuilding team is in reguard to buyouts ,LTIR, and players dropped to the minors. Aquiring short term bad contracts +prospects is the fastest way to stock the cupboards with prospects.

None of which has anything to do with the three points I made. I give up.
