The Islander and Senator trades are downright awful

Leddy is worth more than random players. The Islanders' primary need isn't depth but another serious scoring threat, and neither Simon nor Aston-Reese looks like one. Leddy for Guentzel is about the only deal I can see them making, but I doubt the Penguins would do that.

Three good forwards (two of them top-6) for Letang, an admittedly first-class defenseman but who is 32 and has seen heavy duty, strikes me as too much for Toronto to pay. Plus, ZI haven't done the math, but I doubt that he would fit in Toronto's cap scheme.

The only way Kapanen is getting $4.5M is if the leafs go bonkers and take a huge chance on him and sign him for $4.5x8.

I agree Letang isn't going to be the target for the leafs. Just not the right fit longterm.

Depends on the length. If its a 2 year bridge there's no way its over $3M. No projections/comparables that I'm aware of would put him over that amount.

Precisely. The only player on the Penguins roster I can see the Islanders having interest in is Guentzal, and I can't see how that potential framework can be adjusted so that both teams would make the trade.
