His cap hit is 7M but the offersheet compensation would correspond to a 8.4M AAV cap hit

$7M. If the term of the offer sheet is more than 5 years, its value is added by the contract value divided by term. In this case, it's 6. 7M divided by 5 is 1,4M, so the $1,4M gets added to the compensation. 7M+1,4M = 8,4M...

Some maths lol

It would a great deal for the Isles if Karlsson reverts back to his 2017/18 figures,...his only superior season. Last year 24g, 28a, 56 points....Is that a 7m player and to give up picks too?

Well if Skinner got 7 points more than that and got $9M, then yes. It's worth it.

Yes, but we can't think as the "worse" contracts as being the standards. Actually I don't mind the 7m so much but the Isles have no guarantees of making the playoffs again so it's possibly a lottery pick.
Isles just paid their UFA, Nelson 6m long term who was career 40 point player except this last season....53 points. Then you get into this craziness of maybe signing UFA Duchene for 9m and not giving up the picks for Karlsson. An exciting off season.

7 mil for Karlsson is a good deal. Very complete player and since he is a center he will command more

Maybe not the best idea.
