LA Firesale-Quick Martinez Kovalchuk Toffoli

Created by: Survivorking77
Team: 2019-20 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: May 24, 2019
Published: Jun. 9, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
LA has a firesale, selling many pieces to acquire picks and prospects.

Phaneuf gets bought out.

Then with additional capspace, sign players to 1 year deals to fill the roster and make them expendable at the deadline. Ennis has speed to add to lineup and Gunnarsson is steady option to fill minutes on the backend.

LA also has a top 5 pick that could slot into thier lineup potentially.

Trades
1.
LAK
  1. Lucic, Milan
  2. McLeod, Ryan
  3. 2019 2nd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Kovalchuk, Ilya
  2. 2019 4th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
It might suck to take on Lucic's deal; but maybe the incentive added to it is worth it for LA. Kovalchuk, a more proven goal scorer, moves to a team with playoff intentions and has the opportunity to play alongside McDavid or Draisaitl

LA also retains 40% of Kovalchuk's contract (2.5 Million)
2.
LAK
  1. Hutton, Carter
  2. Murray, Brett [Reserve List]
  3. Samuelsson, Mattias [Reserve List]
  4. 2019 1st round pick (STL)
BUF
  1. Quick, Jonathan
  2. 2019 4th round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
LA moves on from Quick as they shift towards their rebuild.

Buffalo, who wants to turn things around, trade their extra 1st, a former 2nd round pick and former 4th round pick. Also dealing Hutton to act as a fill in keeper for LA during their rebuild.
3.
LAK
  1. Santini, Steven
  2. Zetterlund, Fabian
  3. 2019 2nd round pick (NJD)
NJD
  1. Toffoli, Tyler
Additional Details:
Get value for Toffoli before he hits UFA. NJ would likely be interested in adding a scorer to prove to Hall that they are serious about winning.
4.
LAK
  1. Bracco, Jeremy
  2. Marleau, Patrick
  3. 2020 6th round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. 2019 3rd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Kings have picks to spare and capspace to fill following the other trades. Giving up a late 3rd when they already have 7 selections before it to take on one year of Marleau, and Bracco, a dynamic prospect that fits what LA needs in their lineup.

I like those trades. Nice job on them.

Find it funny how all of your middle-6 wingers played for TOR in 2018-19 season though

Funny how Hutton plays better than Quick and yet Sabres add to get him and his bad contract

I'll admit, that one was the one I was conflicted with the most regarding fair value. I probably overvalue Quick in this....maybe LA could add more or Buffalo could remove a prospect, but here is my logic behind it.

I think Hutton showed, especially during the Sabres collapse that he isn't capable of being a #1 netminder and while Quick does have injury history, he is a winner, and one bad season on a horrendous LA team does not discredit his ability IMO, so I think acquiring him makes sense for a Buffalo team wanting to change their fortunes. Buffalo also has two NHL keepers and with Quick coming in with this deal I felt one had to go back the other way and I think Buffalo would rather keep Ulmark.

Dude Kovalchuk is 10x better than Lucic and produces when given the time. Thats trade makes no sense.

The value is fine, not really interested though. the sabres can swap out ullmark and hutton with another cost effective average goalie and im happy. I dont want to overpay a goalie on principle, but this particular sabres team especially needs to be using assets to acquire players to play in front of their goalies. And the guy the sabres seem to have pegged for goalie of the future is playing in the ahl this year (upl or ukka pekka luukkonen). Would be a pretty bad waste of resources by buffalo.

Yea, that's a fair assessment. I think Samulesson could be a steady dman for them down the road and you'd get a solid prospect with the first.

I really like Luukkonen, it'll be interesting to see if he makes a push to crack the lineup or do what Hart did in Philly, make the team midseason

-Forbort can be put in the same category as the UFA signings, try and deal them at the deadline since they are heading to UFA the following year
-It was rumoured Carter would rather retire than leave LA during this season and since he has full control with his NTC, I didn't deal him
-Martinez...I got lazy
