the trade i have issue with is the minnesota one. There isn't a snowballs chance in hell that Minnesota accepts that offer.

We have Bracco who is cheaper than donskoi and donskoi can easily get 3,75-4.25 in FA

That VAN trade is tempting. i know it's a solid offer bc looking at it it's so hard to say yes and equally hard to say no

That was quite a questionable trade in my eyes as well. Did not know what value folks put on Spurgeon and Kadri and Eriksson Ek as well.

I dont think Bracco can start in top-9 right away. He is PP specialist and we dont have place in PP. He would be moved to get rid of Marleau and it would be good move. Donskoi can get easily more. There is like 2mil left in cap space. Donskoi is fantastic player who is really undervalued. Drives play nicely and would be great in Leafs system.

This is just a tough time to trade Kadri. He had a really down year statistically, and while it might not be fair, that has a lot to do with trade value. The leafs can't call the wild and tell them they have a two way 30 goal scorer on a good contract that they're willing to give up. He scored 14 right? Then he has his idiocy in back to back years getting him suspended in the playoffs.

Then you have Spurgeon, a top ten D in the league. Look at the price for Duchene, and the price for Mark Stone. That's the kind of price the leafs would have to pay for a player like that. Kapanen, a first, and a prospect is probably what Minnesota is looking for.

I’ve done a few agm’s with mckeown coming back. Will be cheap and should be ready for bottom pair minutes.

The issue is trying to balance the Minnesota and Vancouver trades. Neither Vancouver or Minnesota is interested in Kadri. My suggestion.

Kadri- Calgary jankowski and 20201st or 2nd

Zaitsev- Vancouver with lindgren for Stecher maybe we add a pick

Kapanen- Minnesota with a 2020 1st and conditional 2021 2nd if spurgeon re signs.

I think it's closer than you expect. In a vacuum Spurg > Kadri, no question, but Kadri cost controlled for 3 years vs 1 year of spurg is pretty close. The rest doesnt really matter all fringe players and an okay pick.

Plus.....Fenton is going to Fenton.

again, if this was last year and he's coming off a 30 goal season, sure. It's not last year, and he's coming off a really bad year. Other teams will offer more, and they'll offer assets that fit more with the rebuild of Minnesota. If the deal happens around the draft, one of the following would need to be involved. A 2019 first round pick or a blue chip prospect. the leafs have neither.

I get what youre saying. Spurgeon is unquestionably worth about a decent NHLer, a 1st, and a prospect, but Im not sure Kadri's year was as bad as many think.

Yes his goals were down, no question, but his S% went down to 8.7% from 15.2% last year and 13.6% the year before, while hitting a similar shot total on a per game basis. Unless you think he become a massively worse shooter, it's a pretty safe assumption he should bounce back. Everything else he did is pretty much right in line with what he has done Cf% at 54.0 vs a career 50.3, CF% rel at 2.7 vs career 1.6, PPG 0.60 vs career 0.64 and 17/18 at 0.69 PPG. xGF/XGA differential was +5.0 vs a career average of +2.48 (17/18 at -2.1, and 16/17 at +5.5). Also the first year playing behind two legit 1Cs, so not that big of a surprise his point total took a bit of a hit.

We saw kevin hayes, a UFA, in a career year get 55 points. He went for a 1st, a 4th, and Brendan Lemieux (former 2nd round pick). I dont know anyone that would say 3 years of kadri is worth less than 20ish games of Hayes and the playoffs. You can even assume kadri repeats what he did in this year for the next 3 years, and it's pretty logical to assume kadri is still unquestionably worth the package the jets gave up for 20 games of hayes and the playoffs. So let's assume Kadri = A 1st, a 4th and Lemieux.

The trade is essentially

Spurgeon and EK for a 1st, a 4th, lemieux, Rosen and a 2nd. That doesnt really seem like an egregious trade at all. Certainly not something to gripe about and say there isnt a snowballs chance in hell of it happening
