Riverboat Jim strikes it big

Created by: doublem24

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 10, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Start by trading Matta, gain a mid tier draft pick. Could be a 3rd or 4th. He's definitely worth that.

Corey Perry bought out by Ducks, signs with Pens.

Hold Jack Johnson for another year, offer him up with a pick in the expansion draft.

Make more trades to gain picks. Move Hörnqvist and Jarry, Not sure if Yzerman would want a veteran presence with all the youth there. They also gain a young goalie. Price might be too high, but two 3rd rounders also seems appropriate. Biggest obstacle is Hörnqvist contract length, I don't know if anyone would be interested or not.

Kessel to Coyotes. Reunites with Tocchet, price might be too high, would also take a 2nd in place of the 1st but would keep the 3rd rounder.

If they get the first, draft Matt Bouldy with the yotes pick, and Spencer Knight with the Pens pick. Merica.

Trade Shultz to Toronto, take on an expired RFA and 3rd rounder.

With all the space clear, sign Karlsson.

Rust, Bjugstad and Johnson could all come off the books the following year via trade or expansion draft. This gives the space to resign Murray.

GMJR get elected to Hall of Fame, despite being an imbecile.

That kessel trade is awful. Karlsson is not signing with us for under 10.5 and maata is worth a 2nd.
Leafs want to save cap so wont happen

As in, Pitt should be getting more back?

Also, everyone is trying to cut cap, but Toronto also needs a RD. You think they can get a better one for the price?

I by no means believe these things will happen. But if all that's needed is to give Karlsson 500k more, there's room for that.

Additionally, if Matta returns a 2nd, that'd be great, and Pitt would happily accept that.

As far as the Kessel trade goes, my thoughts are that Dvorak fills the void Jordan Staal left. He's a rangey center with strength who also has high level offensive talent. Couple that with a solid 1st round prospect and I don't think the trade is that awful.

This honestly is so well thought out. Kudos. Will probably never happen like you said, but I do believe the individual pieces are feasible.

Thanks man. The most appealing part of this plan is refilling the prospect pool simultaneous to keeping a cup contender together. The Karlsson signing is the most outlandish part of this to me, but even if that didn't happen, they could add an RD back through other means.
