Make it Happen Capn

Created by: krakowitz
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2019
Published: Jun. 10, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The returns for Zaitsev, Marleau and Brown don't really matter, as long as there isn't any cap coming back.

The Leafs are able to sign Anton Stralman with the extra money that they have, and he'd be a great partner for Rielly. While it isn't a completely "fixed" defense, it's certainly better than what they were rolling out last year, and they're still able to keep both Johnsson and Kapanen. If Marner ends up costing a little more than $10M, they have the money to do that as well.

Lovejoy is a good option for them to anchor the third pair and give consistent play. He can help with the penalty kill as well, making him a great fit. Sandin and Liljegren can also see some NHL time this year, if they're ready or if the injury bug strikes.

I don't think Kapanen and his agent would be too happy about making 3+ mill less than Nylander

they would be thrilled with being walked directly to UFA without any UFA years being bought out.

Dubas would never offer that.

Marner will get more if we sign him to 8yrs. I don’t think signing kappy or Johnsson for that much is smart. Ideally we get them both in at 3-750 on 3-4yr deals. But personally I think kappy will be shipped with Z for a team to accept the trade and then we replace him with Bracco who is cheaper. I like Johnsson more because we don’t have that many LW prospects now since grundstrom is no longer with us. As for Stralman, I’d sign him but only for 2 years since we have Liljegren coming up or we trade for Miller who would be better for us. Younger and on team control

Why stop there? I'm sure him and his agent are saying if Matthews is worth 11M, he must be worth at least 10M right? I mean come on......Kap scored 22 goals this year. Only 101 other players managed that feat..... rolling eyes

Silly comment receives silly comment.

In all seriousness, Kapanen has literally no comparative tool to use to even get him in the 5M range.... Let alone 6.9M...... I think he and his agent would be silly to think they could get remotely close to Nylander's deal.

Considering that once he was removed from Matthews' line his production dropped dramatically, getting anywhere near Nylander should be a pipe dream.

While two years would be ideal, Stralman is most likely going to want three, similar to Marleau a few years back. But once Liljegren is ready, Dermott can move back to the left (assuming Muzzin isn't resigned) and then he can step in. Stralman will still be more than serviceable in the third year too, and his cap hit won't be drastically hurting them like Marleau's is.

I agree with you but I think the leafs will want to keep Muzzin because they gave up a lot for him. I mean a top 6 potential forward, top 4 potential man and a 1st just for basically 1.5 years is a lot to not resign.

I don't think Grundstrom and Durzi are quite that good, but regardless, there's a point where it makes sense to let him walk. Both Sandin and Dermott will be ready for bigger roles then, and Muzzin blocks them. At some point they run out of spaces for everyone

They have the potential to be that. Grundstrom was good for the Kings since the trade. My overall point is that we gave up a lot for him and if we let him walk for all of that it would be disappointing.
