That extra 1st rounder makes it much easier to dump Perry's contract on a team that won't be near the cap. Probably could get some value back for Eaves LTIR contract from the Leafs or Lightning too.

Myers would rather take 6X6 than 6.25X3

Why do they need to buy out Perry if Kesler is likely going to LTIR and they should have significant cap space even with signings? And as mentioned above, Myers is going to want more term, and Stralman would probably want more AAV.

They need his roster spot as much as anything. There's quite a logjam on the right side. Plus it just seems crazy to pay him that much money to be third or fourth line winger, or even to scratch him. Plus it saves the owners actual money. The Ducks operate at a loss so any money saved is a plus for them.

Personally, I would not buy any player out if I am not competing for a cup, or if there is just some player on the market that I MUST need and need the cap space. But the Ducks are really not in that position. They want their youth (Steel, Jones, and their young defensemen) to develop, and they are not really a destination for free agents. I would not buy out Perry just for the sake of it. But maybe dealing him to a team for some of the other team's bad contracts (that are short term) + good assets could be a good idea.
