I have to admit I don't watch the Jets much being on the East coast and all so I'm not sure what they need most, but Vatanen is a very solid 3 or 4 defenseman who's great on the PP and is fine in a pinch on the PK. Also there's the Finnish connection with Laine. Cap savings from dealing DK in this so they can go for some good players in a deep forward FA period this summer and Vatanen would probably resign for a modest price with a contender like the Jets.

I mean.... you have to give up something to get something and Trouba is definitely something. Hes a bonafide number 1 defender in this league who still has his whole prime ahead of him. I'm a devils fan and even I get sick of seeing the package deals for good players that include Mueller, Mcleod, and JQ. I think Zacha would be an incredible fit with the Jets on a cheap RFA bridge deal to see if they can finally break all the potential brewing in him.

Devils shouldn't rush out and trade Zacha for scraps, the prospect of a 1-2-3-4 down the center of Nico, Hughes, Zacha, and Zajac sounds incredible. But Hughes definitely makes him expendable as a 3C. Having him reach his potential and never have the possibility of being more then that cause hes being blocked by Nico and Hughes is a luxury NJ cant afford if it brings a star defenseman.

Does anyone think Calgary is worth hitting up for maybe TJ Brodie. He's not Trouba by any means but he would be I think a decent 2nd pairing d man and he plays on right but shoots left.

I think so, I like Trouba more, if nothing else because of age and RFA status. Brodie only has 1 year to UFA and will be 30 then. But if it doesn't work with Trouba, think he is an above average plan B.

But if you're sick of the Devs pkgs., you should see what other teams are suggesting! Trouba wont be given away, but the cap dump of Kulikov/Perrault etc has weight and make the return less. We are allowing them some breathing room. I would never suggest a Q/Mueller/Carrick pkg, but some grouping of Santini/Mcleod, along with pick(s) a retained Vats and a conditional pick if he does not resign and a dump, is not a bad pkg. Their window is now, so getting a 1A RHD for $2.4M who plays 21 minutes has value.
NYRs are offering Pionk, Kreider and a 1st. We can/have do better.

I think its a good move until we see if Smitty is the real deal. I ideally would like both of them. As Cangy said at the end of the season, "you may not see half of these defenders back next year"
