would be willing to take :

Kadri + Marleau (then buy out - costing $3.833M in real $$; or keep on roster if he is ok with location)
for
Barrie (if re-signed longer term)

Barrie (signed long term) is worth more than Kadri. We wouldnt take Marleau as a cap dump on top of that.

Callahan/Marleau are essentially the same $/player at this point
Kadri is 1 yr less signed than JT, but at a lower $ amount, and more proficient at FO/PK
JT Miller maxed out in NYR as a 22G scorer in the mid 50's points wise / Kadri before Tavares was 32G and 55/61 points
+ after July 1 Kadri owed $10.5M in real $$ / JT owed $21 M

To take on Callahan but give up Kaut to get JT Miller? Nah thats just a bad deal for the Avs. Jost will be given his shot at 2C next year, you dont have to move a very important piece of their future in Kaut right now.

Hard pass by the Avs,

or Dach, plus they still have Tyson Jost & Shane Bowers. Next seasons Avs could use a more stable 2C but the org will have 4 or 5 different guys under 22 years old who have 2C potential if they max out.

Thats why Hayes hitting the market would be huge for the Avs if they can get him. Fills that 2C today, but 3-4 years down the line he transitions into a 3C role while the kids move into that spot.

Not really, Callahan can be bought out over 2 years of 2.6m and 1.5m cap hits. Marleau is just a straight 6.5m of dead money next year. Avs are not interested in Marelau to play him, they would buy him out so he doesnt take a roster spot.

Marleau is a worse contract to take on

I completely disagree. Marleau is a far better player than Callahan and a great leader. I don’t think the Avs were looking to buy him out. Personally I think if Marleau goes to the Avs he is retained and they would use him on the roster.

Elliotte Friedman specifically said he believes the plan to buy him out, same as the coyotes, mentioning how Avs got Grubauer by taking on and buying out Orpiks. Sorry but when MSM media guys are saying that, and Avs beat writers are also saying thats what they are hearing as well. The early indications that they have no interest of actually playing him

There is literally no point in buying him out, even on the 4th line or as a scratch he costs the same. Don’t mistake opinions for information.

You keep on preaching about this and in a bit of denial that no one wants Marleau at 39. They only want to weaponize their cap to get something else from the Leafs. They dont want to waste a roster spot on a guy that would be with standard production they can do achieve from within. Marleau takes away from JT Compher, Martin Kaut etc. There is no benefit to play him which is why they would buy him out. If Leafs are taking back Soderberg then maybe you can make an argument of not buying him out and keeping him, but still gaining a nice asset from the Leafs by taking on that contract

Leafs are stuck with Marleau and his NMC clause. If hes so useful then keep him and play him.

It’s his cap hit that is the issue. His play has certainly declined too. I think it depends on what the Avs will chase in ufa. Certainly not a bad move if you can add a pro like Marleau for free at a 3m cap hit. Could very well be that they are only looking to buy him out but when I see the Avs sides throwing names like Morgan Rielly as sweetener I really have to wonder how trustworthy their opinions are lol.

Why are you comparing Kadri & Marleau to Miller and Callahan to justify a Barrie trade? Miller and Callahan arent worth Barrie (signed long term) either...

Barrie > Miller + Callahan

and

Barrie > Kadri + Marleau

no thanks.
