I don’t believe Ericsson or Daley should be bought out. I feel Daley could fetch a late conditional pick (6th if the acquiring team makes 2nd Ed of playoffs). The Wings aren’t strapped for cap this offseason so you can simply bury Ericsson to open a slot in Detroit. Not to mention both have one year left. Why buy them out and extend them being on the cap for another year?

Helm is more plausible I believe. You could buy him out and open a spot but cost 1.85, 1.85, 1, and 1 against the cap the next FOUR seasons. Or you can retain 50% of his salary and ship him off for minimal return and only owe 1.9 the next two seasons where they have about 13M in cap this offseason and fought 45M in cap next offseason. I don’t see why they should buy them out and kick the can down the road.

Why would you hamper your cap next year for Ericsson and Daley when both have expiring contracts (not to mention just to leave the cap space)? That's absolutely asinine. Also, Helm AND Daley could both be traded, so buying them out makes even less sense... good Gord is this terrible...

No reason to buyout players on 1 year contracts when Detroit has plenty of salary cap space. Simply retain 50% and ship them somewhere else.
