Created by: WhereArtTLuongo
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 12, 2019
Published: Jun. 12, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Phaneuf, Dion
  2. 2019 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Hutton is worth around a late second or an early third so taking on Phaneuf upgrades that to a late first
LAK
  1. Hutton, Ben [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
LA is thin on the left side and Hutton can play the second or third pairing and provide some offense so he is a big upgrade over Phaneuf. LA also saves about $2.25 million in salary.
2.
VAN
  1. Eaves, Patrick
  2. Murphy, Trevor [RFA Rights]
  3. Perry, Corey
  4. 2019 1st round pick (SJS)
ANA
  1. Baertschi, Sven
  2. Sutter, Brandon
Additional Details:
Sutter serves as a Kesler replacement while Baertschi adds some offense to the ducks left wing which is a position of weakness for them. This trade also saves the ducks about $4 million in cap space.

The reason for getting rid of Perry isn’t cap, it’s for the roster spot and not forcing him to play on the 4th line. There are 0 reasons to attach a 1st round pick to just get rid of him.

until you realize that he's 34 years old, can't stay healthy, when he is healthy for a full season he's only a 50 point guy, and his cap hit is $8.625 for not only this season, but next season as well. & moving that cap hit allows Anaheim to maneuver a ton more. Plus gives them a roster spot for someone else.. there's 6 reasons to "just get rid of him".. so if not a 1st, it's definitely worth a very good young player to move him.

Kings would just buy out Phaneuf before they offered up a 1st round pick to get rid of his contract.

There is no way a rebuilding team give a first rounder for cap dump.
Only cup containders with stack roster (tampa) could give up their 1st for a cap dump (calahan)

From a Vancouver standpoint, why would you help two teams that you are ahead of in a race to get back into the playoffs? Vancouver is much closer to a playoff appearance than either of these teams. Why would you help two division rivals like this?

Left wing is not a position of weakness for the Ducks. They have lots of young options at LW with more potential that Baertschi. (Rakelll, Comtois, Jones, Ritchie). Not giving up a 1st to move Perry’s contract and take on Sutter. Moving Eaves contract is pointless for the Ducks.

You do know that his career low in games played before this season was 70 right? And that most seasons he play 80? But sure he can’t stay healthy because he finally got hurt playing hockey. Also until you realize that a buyout is an option too since the ducks have the cap space there’s no reason to add a 1st.

Corey Perry just purchased a new home in London, Ontario. And rumor has it he wants to play close to home. Probably down to the Leafs or Sabres.
