Description
Say what you want Oilers fans but you get a 22 year old proven 30 goal scorer and a 60 point player who is capable of much more. Also one of the only players in the league who can keep up with McDavid. You need guys to play with him, we need a 2C. It works. I know you are all going to say that we need to add a lot more.

Ehlers for RNH is already an overpay on its own. Maybe the other way around and RNH and a second for ehlers.

I personally think that your value is spot on. A 2C is always worth more then a winger, their point production is very similar. My personal preference would be for Conner instead of Ehlers but don’t know if the Jets are willing to give him up.

A center is worth significantly more than a winger. Yes, the Oilers need wingers, but RNH can also play winger and center. Plus Ehlers had a down year, meaning that he isn't quite as valuable than he was last year. I think this is fair value on both sides.

Ehlers is young. Everyone has a down year. Look at toews. Had a terrible year and 18-19 he had a career high

What? Ehlers just came off the worst season of his career and RNH just finished the best season of his career. RNH is worth more than Ehlers right now

exactly, and this trade is being suggested "right now", meaning that RNH is worth more than Ehlers in this scenario

Look at my comment about toews. He’ll bounce back next year.

Just because Toews had a bounce back season doesnt mean Ehlers will. You cant just say a player has more value because he might have a bounce back season

I know but only way to make these oilers fans happy. I wouldn’t trade Ehlers straight up for him honestly

Four years of term lost for two seasons of RNH is just not worth it, the only Oiler besides McD+Drai (which would never happen) I'd consider trading Ehlers straight up for is Klefbom and even then I'd probably want some sweetener sent along with Klefbom.

Really though RNH for Ehlers doesn't help the Oilers, one of RNH or Draisaitl mostly plays wing, if they trade RNH for Ehlers they still have to add another winger and they lose the flexibility of having a spare center should one of Draisaitl or McDavid gets hurt.

You have to also consider that Ehlers is locked in at $6 Mil for the next 6 years... only 2 more @ $6 Mil, before he will need a new contract... and likely a raise. That's where the valuation differs.

This is why 1-for-1 trades are rarely done in the NHL. It's nearly impossible to find a perfect fit.

I agree but I think Klefbom for Ehlers is pretty close, Ehlers has longer term but Klefbom has a lower cap hit so it kinda balances out but even still idk if I'd do it.

I heard this morning on TSN radio that Neal for Turris might happen, that might be a perfect fit, I really want to see more cap dump swaps... ?

Leave it to Nashville to find a great fitting 1-for-1 cap dump lol.
