As a Chicago fan I love the Brodie trade. Finally, someone that isn’t an airhead

As a Flames fan, absolutely not interested in that free second round pick we are giving away. That is a big price.

If its a conditional pick for Brodie going UFA it should be much lower than a second. I see Brodie and Saad as almost equal in value. At worst a #3D (likely a lot of teams second best defense man) for a top 6 winger. Maybe remove the condition and just add a mid-late round pick to sweeten the deal from Chicago's perspective. I do like the idea of using Brodie for an upgrade in the top 6 though.

Why trade Jankowski when he's finally arrived as an NHL bottom 6 player for a pick who only has a small chance of making an impact during the team's window of contending? If its to get under the cap, you may as well move Czarnik who doesn't kill penalties nearly as well as Janko did last year.

Sucks to lose Bennett + Frolik, but I think Zucker would be a good fit in Calgary as the #5/6F with along with Saad. Your moves also make the keeper forwards for expansion more well defined.

I'll be honest, I don't know enough about Saad's recent performance, but this is a really unique and original idea. Calgary could argue Brodie is better than Gardiner, while being cheaper. The parts around the edges may need to change to balance the deal, but this is intriguing.

Jankowski really doesnt fit anymore. He's expensive for not really providing any on ice value. He's easy to replace, and surprisingly old for a player folks are willing to assume there is growth left.

FWIW, the Flames lowballed Jankowski on the ELC. They needed to make an offer to guarantee a compensatory 2nd rd pick should he go UFA out of college. He then had a shooting percentage burst playing with Mangiapane and Hathaway in the AHL as an old pro rookie. I think both of those players provide more at the NHL level.

Count me as someone who isn't a Jankowski fan. Doesn't use his size well, can't drive play or distribute too well, not particularly fast. There are stretches were I honestly think he's lucky to be an NHLer. Reminds me of Colborne.

Now with all I said I think this is a time where you can move him as he has fairly decent counting numbers. 5 shorties, could interest a team
