Almost perfect roster, although I think it’s not so easy to get rid of Okposo.

Thanks - the theory on Okposo is that: 1) Devils have the 3rd most cap space right now in NHL behind Colorado and Ottawa and they need some bottom 6 depth with experience; 2) Sabres retain 1/3 of his contract over remaining term; 3) Devils presumably would not be one of the teams on Okposo's 15-team no trade list; and 4) Devils would add a solid defensive prospect not far removed from NCAA success. Whether or not a return to the Long Island area, where Okposo and his wife spent 6 years, may also be a factor.

As much as Sabres need to get out of that contract as soon as possible and not allow more time to lapse where Okposo's increasing age truly makes him 100% undesirable, there is some risk in making him a cap dump when it comes to the reaction the other players may have. Okposo wore an 'A' as a very popular teammate in the locker room and acted as a mentor to Mittelstadt - removing him in an unceremonious dump may leave a bad taste for some of the remaining players for whatever that's worth. Still, from a business perspective, it's the right thing to do.
