Biglite351, I like your resilency! You've been on here combating months and months of Caps fans trading 65's rights for various returns. I commend you.

I know I had been thinking something could be gotten for him for months also. Stranger things have happened though. He said he really likes it in DC and likes his teammates so BMac should call the bluff and not tender him and try to sign him for a 1 year show me deal for a bit less (2.5 million?). I used to think we could probably get something but for that to happen a team would have to like what they see (which really has just been inconsistency) or think they have really good coaching/schemes in place to help him get on track and producing consistently finally. It's a conundrum.

I see Copley being traded/bought out a lot on here, but I don't think that's gonna happen. He's a solid backup, and the Caps are going to need to expose a goalie to Seattle, and he would meet the requirements.

Yeah, every time I post that no one is trading for his rights I grimace before hitting submit because it runs through my mind that with my luck he will get traded. But I am sticking to the no trade because I am sticking hard to no one giving him $3.25M and therefore why would anyone trade for him.

If they want Samsonov up they will have to do something with Copley. A trade is always possible, but a 27yo backup with meh stats isn't going to gt much. A buyout isn't going to happen, he is heading into the first year of his new 3 year 1-way deal. Speaking of which, I think that they signed him to a 3yr, $1.1M deal, even with his not great #s because they want him for the expansion and they figure that no one would pull him off waivers at $1.1M. Therefore, they can send him down, he would clear waivers, and they are covered for the expansion. (sending him down would only count as $25,000 against the cap this year)

However, the expansion is still 2 summers, actually 3 summers away as this summer (draft/FA/etc) hasn't started yet. It's not this summer (next week), it's not next summer, it is the following summer, about 737 days from now. A lot can happen between now and then.
