I think that excess cap space was burning a hole in Fletcher's pocket

Gudas is garbage (dirty). Not the direction I want to go. however, went from $5.75M cap hit to $2.3M, that opens a good amount of space for actual quality.

Makes no sense from the FLyers perspective. Gudas and Niskanen are basically equal so why take on $3.4 cap and remove a good locker room guy?

Niskanen perceived value was way higher than his actual value and the flyers pulled the trigger?

I agree. Nisky is a 1st pairing guy who plays tough minutes, while Gudas is somewhat sheltered on the 3rd pairing.

They are nowhere near equal. Niskanen plays 1st pair, Gudas 3rd pair.

Sheesh, and to think some people get all riled up when I suggest Matt Benning - a solid 4/5 guy - has a modicum of value.

I think a decent trade for both. Flyers get a guy who can play 1st pair minutes (bad underlying stats but still). Caps clear cap space and get a solid 3rd pair guy

Who gives a fk if he played top pairing! AMac played top pairing 2 years ago, does that mean he is good? Niskanen has been in decline for multiple years now. He isn't good anymore!

Fair deal. Philly gets the better D and Caps get the cap space they needed.

Gudas may be a dirty player, but in no way is he a bad player. He’s much better than Niskanen.

Just like Tom Wilson & Brad Marchand, not many people like him, but he is a very valuable player.

Yeah, I really can't make sense of retaining any of his salary when you're already taking more on. This doesn't make sense to me.

You are fking clueless bud!

The reality of this is ...if Niskanen was still good why would the caps trade him? Harsh reality is he’s not great that why we signed Jensen and traded him away. Gudas “not being able to play top 4 “ doesn’t matter bc he’s going to play bottom pairing. We got what we needed and philly got a “top pairing” guy

He doesn’t have to....? He’s going to play bottom pairing for the caps? Niskanen was an alzner to orlov. Look what happens when you get rid of the backpack. I bet orlov has a fantastic year

Caps traded him because of his cap hit. They got worse in this trade but traded nearly 5 Million Dollars in cap space. Niskanen is the far superior player here, but the Capitals have a cap crunch
