Fletchers done nothing to indicate that’s his way.

Potentially added Niskanen and Hayes for a 5th and Gudas.

Clearly is refusing to part with high end prospects and high draft picks. Trouba price was too high so he chose another route.

He chose to give away $3.4 mil in cap space to a comparable player...brilliant!

If you think Gudas and Niskanen are comparable players I might suggest watching some actual hockey. I liked Gudas but Niskanen is a clear upgrade and should benefit Provorov as well.

Niskanen has declined the past 2 years, he is not a clear upgrade! Gudas had, arguably, his best season last year.

There’s more to it than that IMO. Niskanen has an extra year on his contract which is huge for us, his style of play also better suits a top 4 role paired with Provorov or Sanheim. He had a down year last year, but was also recovering from a concussion.

The dude was a top 4 D on the Stanley Cups champs less than 13 months ago. I agree there are some angles of this trade that aren’t good, but people are overreacting by saying this was a brain dead move

Philly fans: Gudas is better than Niskanen.
Every other teams fans: Niskanen is better.

#truth.

My opinion, I despise Gudas and think he is over glorified because of his toughness but its almost always come at the cost of being dirty or taking himself out of the play.. I will say though, he is an elite bottom pairing player which is not nothing. Niskanen even in a bad season is a top 4 on many NHL teams. Guy had a bad year. He was lights out good just a year ago when Caps won the cup. He's a cup winner who can score and play defense.

Philly has the cap space. Adding a little more is not a big deal. This is IMO a slam dunk for Fletcher. I do however think Washington is going to force teams to have to ice a 4th line with at least one tough guy to counter their stupidity. Gudas and Wilson are going to injure a lot of players next year together.
