I don't think Marner will be getting $11M, making him the highest paid winger in the league and tied for the third highest paid player. Despite reports of him seeking the Matthews deal, if the Leafs were going to give it to him, they would have already. I don't think these moves make the Leafs better, despite clearing up some cap space, this roster is worse than if they left the team as is ($14M in cap room) and move Brown along with Marleau for nothing to be able to sign all the young forwards.

Marner will get an offer sheet from a team that toronto wont/cant match. Marner had 94 points this year which led the team. He will get 11m from someone. probably wont be the leafs though.

I disagree, a team will have to give up four first round picks to offer Marner that much and while he is an elite player, more and more prospects being drafted are making an impact. Also, a team that is able to offersheet probably isn't currently in the playoffs so the question will be, are they will to risk up to four lottery picks or do they think that Marner is enough to push them over the edge. From what I hear, two teams that may offer sheet are New Jersey and Detroit and as a Leafs fan, I'd be very happy if we received either of those teams' next four first round picks.

I would personally be terrified of getting NJ next 4 1st. They would have a forward core of Hall, Marner, Hischer, and Hughes (The first round picks would start untill 2020), if they could manage to add another top 4 d-man and get average goal-tending they should have a pretty good shot to the eastern conference playoffs. At that point you would be banking on them losing Hall in 2020. Just my opinion though.

To me, it looks like Hall would be gone and their d-core needs more than just one more top 4 guy. I think if they make all the right moves, can re-sign Hall and get goaltending that they could be a force but how often do we say that about a team and see a much different result.

A team could offer 10,148,301 per year and only give up 2 firsts a second and a 3rd. im sure toronto would take 10.1m but thats 33m tied up in 3 forwards. good luck building a team around that.
