Description
Not thrilled with the Matta trade but I'll give him a chance before I dismiss him. But from first impressions alone not very impressed. We traded a speedy winger for a concrete block on skates. If he can AT LEAST make our pk better its something but either way CHI takes another fat L by getting a subpar dman. I can see why Bowman moved a winger because we have many replacement level ones, but why one that was proven in his rookie year? This also doesnt make the Blackhawks look good for international free agents because it looks like they'll just sign and trade you a year later even if you did good. RIP Kahun and RIP my profile picture :(

I can't imagine Kubalik is thrilled with this, considering he and Kahun were teammates in the past.

Regardless, I don't think it will deter Euros coming over as much as you might think. Trades would happen with any team they go to and such is life.

And I'm going to miss that celly too.

Yeah wonder how it will affect Kubalik...
Youre most probably right on the euro prospects signings but it may make some hesitant.

You didn't mention that Maatta has spent just over a 1/3 of his career on the IR. Or that he was a healthy scratch for all but 1 playoff game the played Jack Johnson in that spot the other 5 games.

I think they would have been better off paying a little more in draft capital and getting Miller from VGK. Better contract, better player, plays right side, not injury prone. Maybe they will still make a charge at Miller or Murray. Who knows?

No he hasn’t...he hasn’t even spent 1/3rd of his career on IR let alone over 1/3. He wasn’t scratched cause just he played poorly. He was scratched because he was the odd man out. They refuse to just give up on JJ and they tried to shake up the D after 1 game. They obviously weren’t sitting Letang, Dumo, and Schultz. Petterson and Gudbranson were their trades so they weren’t gonna suddenly sit them. And JJ sniffs Crosby’s jock for a living so they’ve gotta please him.

I doubt it, they don’t really need either. They have 3 RHD and a bunch of lefties

Actually the Hawks only have 2 natural right side defenseman. Seabs & Murphy.

No he really has. Add up the games he has played in then take the number of seasons he has played multiply by 82 and thats the total possible games played. Divide the number of games played by the total possible games played. Then let me know what you get.

I like the trade, improves our crap defense, we don’t have any young LHD besides Gus and he’s not even that young Määttä might just need a change and we could draft a forward cuz we need one, People say Chicago needs to draft a d-man but why we have so many elite and top 4 prospects, boqvist, jokiharju, Mitchell, krys, budien, vs forward prospects there’s... Brandon hagel??

No he hasn’t. He has played 6 seasons. A possible 492 games. 1/3 of that is 162 games. He has played a total of 362 games. 492-162= 330. For him to miss even just a 1/3 of his career means he would have only played 330 games. He’s played more. Now not all of those 130 games missed are from injury either. And about half of those games missed are from cancer, not even a hockey injury. So no he is not injury prone. And no he hasn’t missed 1/3 of his career, let alone more than 1/3 due to injury. Unless math has suddenly changed.

I apologize you are right. When I counted the seasons I had 7yrs I counted the the place holder for next season. He has spent a little more than 1/4 on the IR.

Yeah but he is a shot blocking machine and that tends to happen and still, half of that is from cancer and not even a hockey injury. And I think he will be good in Chicago. He won’t have to play with a pylon in Jack Johnson. He will most likely play with Jokiharju or Murphy

Not to take away from the seriousness of cancer but thyroid cancer has a 98% survival rate. I have 2 friends that have had that surgery and missed less than a week of work.

No they did not. The only two players that had played in NA that year were both Joki and Lankinen. All other Finnish players were from various European leagues (mostly liiga) and relatively unknown.

Your right but he's younger and in better shape there for he would faster.

Games play by Maatta in each of his 6 seasons. 78, 20, 67, 55, 82, 60. Also in the playoffs last season Pittsburgh had 6 defensemen that played more games than him.
