Description
Looking thru the list of UFA RW'ers a few pop out as maybe possibilities. I wish Pavelski would be a realistic option but clearly is not. Gustav Nyquist and Mats Zuccarello seem like good options as well but I think Nyquist might demand a little too much for Sweeney's liking and Zuccarello I would see re-uping in Dallas. So imo that leaves really only two/three other options.

1. Brett Connolly; had a career year this season with the Caps which may be misleading, but he has a real good shot and comes with good size. This season may be misleading and he will probably get better money somewhere else but still intriguing imo. Had a lot of success with 5v5 scoring, something the Bruins need to improve.

2. Joonas Donskoi; The youngest of the three enters the UFA market posting 3 30 point seasons in his last 4. The only one of the three listed to do so. A good offensive zone threat but isn't great in his defensive zone. Not a great goal scorer but could be a nice addition to go along side Krejci/Debrusk.

3. Alex Chiasson; A really low risk option, dont think hell get anything crazy on the market despite posting career numbers (22-16-38). Not sure what line he was on but his numbers could be a result of playing with McDavid/Drai/Nugent-Hopkins.

Everything being said I think Connolly fits the best player wise. A bigger winger who is capable of throwing his body around and can shoot the puck.

if you were Chiasson would you leave edmonton? He put up good numbers there, they are clearly inflated as he's been little more than a journey man prior. But another year of that and he might start to actually make more than league minimum. I don't see him leaving a situation like that.

Highly doubt Connelly goes back to Boston. Between them and Tampa he almost ended his career. Could be wrong but imo it’s unlikely. Also idk if Boston wants to risk investing him again

If you’re chiasson why wouldnt you go to the highest bidder and make your money before you retire? He has a family and I’m sure making money is more important than stats. Even winning a cup would be higher on the list So in this situation why not play in Boston where you could possibly win a cup. Edm offers him 1-1.5 million. Let’s say Boston offers 2 million why you would stay in edm where he’ll lose but have career numbers?

because he'd be betting on himself. One more year of the kind of numbers he put up in edmonton he'll land a much larger deal. He knows he can have success there. However if he goes to boston for only a little bit more and he flops like he did other places, and it's over. That's why. Players like him can't simply pick and choose where they want to go if they want to maximize their value. He'd walk away from a good thing in edmonton for him. He puts up 22 goals next season, he's looking at 4 million a year after.

I don't think that they want to go for a veteran winger in the off season. I think one of Bjork, Senyshen, Studnika, or another young guy takes either the 2RW or 3C spot unless none of them get it done, in which case another trade deadline move. I also hate trading Moore - I think he's good value, and both Chara snd Krug could be gone from the left D after next year.

I think Donskoi would be my pick from that list. Although if you’re going to bridge Carlo/McAvoy I’d rather try to bring Johansson back over Connolly.

I also don’t get trading Moore he’s a perfectly capable 6/7 D and you’ll want him for the expansion draft.
