Scandella to MTL Donskoi - Thornton an impossible idea

Created by: gretzkyghosts

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 15, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Marleau can leave the Sharks so can Thornton. Joe is still one of the NHL's best set up man. Hopefully he will be still do that for one more year.
If Okposo is being paid as a top line forward, then let's play on the #1 RW.

This lineup is still ass. And you have Okposo on the first line for some odd reason, guy's lucky to be on the 4th. Asplund and Ruotsalainen wont be playing. And you dont have our other under achiever Nylander up.

Unlikely that Thornton will sign in Buffalo.
I guess if Pominville could perform well with Jack and Jeff, why not try Okposo as he is 6 years younger than Jason.
Asplund played well the last 20 games in Rochester so maybe he can fit into the 4th line center.
Olofsson looks like he could be the Sabres 2nd line LW, especially with Thornton feeding him.
Ruotsalainen has to be with the club or he goes back to Finland.

Thornton has already stated San Jose is the only team he’ll play for so why even fantasize. Especially when Buffalo has zero chance to win anything next year.

Adding three players who scored 59 goals last year and Montour for an entire season and the team still is bad. How did anyone think we had a playoff team last year.

Yes he is, but while Pominville played with Jack over 32% of the time while recording 16 goals, Okposo played with Jack about 8% of the time and got 14 goals. 11 of 16 of Pominville’s goals were assisted by either Jack or Jeff or both. Only one of Okposo’s goals received an assist from Jeff and none from Jack. Let’s see if he can earn his $6,000,000 cap hit on the top line. If he can maybe he can stay there or be traded. If not then send him to Rochester or buy him out. But let’s at least try to get our money’s worth.

Wow, adding 50 goals is the worse case, I guess the Sabres are headed for last place OA again

You are correct the bottom 2 are certainly not long range plans. I did not see any inexpensive RFA defenseman who was significantly better than either of them.
Did you happen to notice who is on IR? When they come back, Hunwick and Nelson sit. BTW, Nelson actually played well last year and Hunwick is a serviceable 6/7 defenseman.
