Price is alright for Hagelin, but the term? I would've done 3 MAX, probably 2. Dude's going to be 34 at the end of this and his play this season wasn't really inspiring.

hagelin was extremely important to the caps down the stretch. Good move even if the term is a tad much. Very tradable and easy to buyout

Too long, a bit too much money in my opinion. His play did not warrant a 4 year deal. I do not personally understand why he was really extended in the first place, unless left wing is particularly lacking in depth.

Four years is too much but Hagelin's game should age well so this contract might not be a disaster.

The Caps probably gave him the 4th year in exchange for the lower AAV. And any contract with a sub-$3mil AAV is basically nothing against the cap, especially since the salary cap goes up every year.

I don't think he's tradable at this AAV. If the Caps are shopping him at all that means he's underperforming big time. Otherwise, they'd keep him. LAK got terrible return when the traded him to WASH a few months ago, and the Kings retained almost $2M in salary. Imagine 3-4 years from now...Yeah. That being said, right now, he's a valuable depth Forward w/ loads of playoff experience. He knows how to win come April-June. The term is a deal breaker for me.

Not for a cap team like WASH. Every 100k matters. Don't you think teams like TOR, PIT, & WPG would give anything for an extra 3.3% cap space for 4 seasons? That could mean Tampa signing EK at market value or TOR keeping Johnsson and Kapanen. Every little bit helps in a salary cap league.

Valuable bottom 6 + PK guy. Struggled in the play offs but I'm glad they resigned him. Kinda worried about the term though

Good price per year but to many years. I would have gave him 3 years tops.

DSP was extremely important to the Caps during last season's Cup run. They didn't give away the farm for him and he spent the better part of this season in Hershey. I know Haglin has always been a clutch playoff performer, but he's past his peak and declining precipitously. Why not $3.25M for 2 years instead?

Great signing! Too much for too long is always a good thing. For other teams.

This would be much more palatable on a shorter contract. Hagelin's a decent penalty killer but he can't score to save his life.

As someone that has seen A LOT of Hagelin... He is an actual good guy, tenacious, solid forechecker. However, he is also an offensive black hole that will zap you offensive momentum. What he brings to the team is useful, but it is also something that you can get by cycling through 23 year old guys from the AHL who are passionate and trying to earn their stay in the NHL, and doing it at league minimum $. Accounting for his added experience over those kids... $1.5M would have been plenty. This is $1M+ too much per year. Keeping Hagelin for 4 years is a positive, doing so at $2.75M is not.

His primary skill is speed. Speed is what older players lose first. He plays the style which is worst for an older player.

Too long for rather too much money. It's the term that's pretty bad.

Don't really like the AAV or term based on his 2018-19 but its been the asking price for veteran bottom 6 guys for couple years now. Calvert, Roussel, Beagle, Nash, Komarov, Eaves.. etc list goes on

there is no part of Hags game that should "age well"
His game has been and remains build off his foot speed. He's 30. That contract runs till he's 34. He will never be as fast in 4 years.

This contract is 2 years too long and honestly I think they over paid. As comments before have noted. Offensive black hole. Good penalty killer though, he gets lots of chances. He simply has no finish to his game. I'm glad that washington signed him though. For a while there I was worried the penguins would resign him and be stuck with him again.

While you all are pointing out the term, in two-four years with the Cap raises 2,7M for a aging fourth liner ( what he will became if regresing by that time ) will be shekels.

He took a significant pay cut so i guess this is a good signing for the caps, even with a long term. If he's play is worth the money you can also call that term stability..
