Is this roster supposed to be better than last year's?

Why not this year's first round draft picks? This is as deep a draft as they come, so I'm not looking for picks next year. Also with Malkin gone you'd need a Center. Therefore Trochek is the much more sensible target in a hypothetical Malkin trade.

Really doubt Ariz would give up Dvorak whom they just signed, Joseph their young 1st round pic and 1 1st rounder for a declining Kessel. Doubt they would give up any of those 3 in a one for one. Doubt Florida gives a 1st rounder and Hoffman and Tippett whom they just drafted in the 1st round.

"declining Kessel" who would still be one of the best players they've had in franchise history

So you would make that trade if you are the GM of Arizona?

it would probably move them into the playoffs as they just missed this last season so yes, I would. thats fair value for kessel. Dvorak missed majority of the season, POJ was taken too high in 2017, and the 2020 first may very well be a playoff pick. if I was pens id want the 2019 first.

Can’t get much worse then a first round sweep

Hoffman can get them another pick/prospect if they are sellers at the deadline
