Description

Didn't like the Gudas-Niskanen trade at all, so trying to make a step to fix that part of things. Never mind the rest of the roster, that's not the point of this trade. Don't think I want to spend 6.5 to 7.0 on Hayes if PHI is not his first option. Not getting into a bidding war with teams ARZ and CBJ that will have plenty more cap space to throw at him.

CHI traded for Maatta but a The Athletic article states that CHI is not done looking for d-help. Flip Niskanen for Saad. Each have 2 years left with Saad AAV just 250k more than Niskanen so balances out there. CHI gets a still perceived top-4 d-man and PHI gets a proven 20G/50P forward.

I'd also flip him to Vancouver since I hear they are also looking to be active d-man shopping but no idea what would be fair return.

i don't think Chicago will be looking for anymore help on the right side, especially one with term. Maybe Vancouver bites, but I could see Philly hang onto him, considering how much help they need on D as well

I didn't realize that both were on the same side. Good point. I'd still rather flip Niskanen given the GM's statement about maximizing cap flexibility. Still haven't figured out a trade partner or fair return if CHI isn't a good fit.

I absolutely didn't mind Gudas for what he was and it was the final year of his deal. I'm now convinced that they could get even more for Niskanen after the Trouba deal. There really aren't that many UFA d-men that are perceived as top-4 especially with Trouba and Karlsson off the board. He could easily be flipped for a mid-to-high 1st plus at least a B-prospect. Still sign Stralman for less than Niskanen for the puck moving d-man to play top-4 with Sanheim, and have a literal big 3rd pairing with Myers and Morin. That's still a solid d-corps. Might not hurt as much then when they overpay for Hayes.
