The fewer years of ufa bought out, the better for the player. There’s a reason Matthews wanted 13.8 for 8 years, but took 11.6 for 5. 5 years is super player friendly. 4 years has literally never happened before.

Wood was a group 1 rfa like McAvoy. Didn’t play 10 games his first year so it didn’t count towards a year of pro time. So no, Marner would not be an rfa after a 4 year deal. If a guy has played 7 years, he’s a ufa.
