Why is Edmonton (or anyone for that matter) giving up a 2nd for a guy that no one is giving $3.25M to and will therefore be a UFA come the 25th, and a guy that is a dime-a-dozen 4th line/AHL call-up type? No one is even going to give a 7th for that pair.

I agree in principle, but a 7th? As an Edmonton fan, I'd give them a 2019 6th + a 2020 3rd for these 2 players - the 2020 pick would be conditional on Burakovsky signing as he can sign for less than his QO amount if he wants to. I'd like to think the prospect of playing with McDavid again combined with a decent offer ($2.5M x 3) would be enough to get him to bite. If he doesn't sign then we've lost nothing, the trade becomes a 6th for Stephenson.

Or we could wait until July 1st and sign Burakovsky without giving up anything.
