Basically a "show me" contract with little to no risk for Ottawa.

The Duke looked like a stud down the stretch for Ottawa, and hopefully he's able to show he can find some consistency to his game.

100% agreed. And, if he does get off to a hot start. Come TDL, they'll probably be able to get something in return. Lots of options here.

Yup, consistency has always been a bit of a problem for him (also played for some bad teams), but he's got talent and is still young enough to grow into a more consistent player so this is a good signing.

I was shocked by how much talent Duclairs was...... When he was traded to Ottawa, I thought he was just a throw-in, but after watching him play, you see how good of a player he is. This guy has top-6 Talent!

He needs to figure out his attitude and defensive play! This is kind of his last chance to prove everyone wrong.

Great low-risk signing

Why can't Duclair find his footing w/ any team? NYR, ARI, CHI, CBJ, and now OTT. 5 teams in 5 years. What's the deal here? He's def. talented enough to stick around somewhere, right?

Maybe Duclair can be consistent enough to not be traded midseason? Here's to hoping, I guess. Contract is low-risk for the team in terms of money.

He's basically worn out his welcome with every coach he's played for since entering the league. Just goes to show in the NHL you can have all kinds of talent but if you're not willing to buy into the system you'll go nowhere. I just hope he can turn it around because the guy definitely has top 6 talent.

So it's his defensive game that needs the work? Or is it his attitude?

He has bad attitude, he is arrogant and not a team player. I wouldn't have him on my team if I was OTT, don't want to poison young team that is in rebuilding mode.

Both. I think it was Torts that basically called him uncoachable. Now I don't always agree with Torts but it's been more than one coach that hes clashed with because he plays the way he wants to instead of buying into a system. Like I said that kind of talent hopefully doesn't get wasted and he turns it around.

Not sure why he signed for one year. If I was Duclair, I would take a 4 year deal so I could get out of Ottawa ASAP

Good deal for Duclair and the team. He gets another chance to prove he can play in the NHL and Ottawa gets to have a motivated hockey player in their city.

He's lazy. Period. Which is what people confuse for "inconsistency."
He thinks his only job on the team is to score goals and that's the only time you get any effort out of him. He wants to be the "hero" syndrome, willing to do none of the get your hands dirty work.
He's the only player I have ever seen Torts chew out right in front of the TV cameras. EVER. I don't mean like a little either, I mean full blow in your face Torts head was about to explode. He was so red I thought he was going to have a heart attack and die. He's never that way in public with his own players one on one. He might give the whole team a lashing in the locker room with the camera rolling. But he'll never single anyone out and just straight explode on him on camera. But he did on Duclair you can't believe. And that really tells the whole story. It's why he was a healthy scratch and traded. No one is going to put up with that dude long term and he just doesn't get it.

You'd hope he'd eventually get the message. I remember him at the WJC w/ Max Domi. He was just as talented as Domi.

Excellent point. He'll have an influence over the young Sens good or bad. If he's a problem, they'll need to move on from him sooner rather than later. Hence the 1 year contract, I suppose. I'd have thought if anyone could make him accountable defensively and w/ attitude it'd be Torts.

Oh wow, OK, haha ... well, we'll see how this goes, its just one year of streaky goalscoring and bad attitude for Ottawa then.

I think it’s too much $$. If he falters again, they will not want to pay him this again. Less money would’ve been less risky.

Great deal for a top 6 forward.
I believe he can score 40-45 pps. For that kind of money.... safe and smart move

There is a reason he is on his FIFTH NHL roster at only 23 years old. And it has nothing to do with skill or talent.
Duclair is the kind of player that makes you want to smash your head against a wall. Oozing with all of the skill and speed that you look for in a forward, but literally no hockey IQ or effort.
He refuses to listen to his coaches, put any effort into the game when the puck isn't on his stick, and take the blame for his struggling career. He is not the player you hope he is.
OTT should have been able to resign him for the same contract he had last year.
