A couple reasons, but the main thing is having Laine means you're taking away Weber's best weapon, which is his one-timer. Laine is better at it, but that means Weber's value to MTL is a lot lower. The 2nd reason is it would help with cap space.

We’re good with the cap, Weise Mason contract expired Alzner ( buyout ) and a trade ( Shaw Byron ) comes to my mind, we gonna have enough cap space to resign Domi Mete Juulsen + the caphit might increase

Laine is will be lower than Weber, Weber’s at the point.
