Since Everyone Else Is Doing It

Description
The Meier contract is going to be the big key in all of this. A three year bridge contract gives him the chance to cash in big when the going rate for a player like him is going to be much higher. This may not be ideal for San Jose since it would expire at the same time as Hertl, but it'll be the only chance they have to keep the AAV down so they can bring back Pavelski.

If Pavelski is truly committed to winning in San Jose, he'd take a discount to come back and try to stay for the duration of their contention window. I can totally see him just leaving to get $2M more per season, but if they're going to keep the band together, this is pretty much the only way.

Honestly, if Thornton saw $750,000 for one more year, I think he may want to retire for sure. Of course, we don't know what he's thinking. Maybe another team if he hates this offer. Goes back to Boston or something.

I doubt that's true. He wants to win a Cup before he retires, and if he doesn't hang them up now, he'll be playing in San Jose. He'll take what the Sharks are able to pay him for one more crack at it. The $1.25M difference doesn't matter to him at this stage of his career. He wants the chance to win in San Jose, and if he wants to play one more season, he'll be back at whatever AAV

There's no way he leaves San Jose. If he's not retiring and wants one more shot to win, I don't see the contract value mattering to him all that much.

I highly doubt he'll still take league minimum or the like. No matter how wealthy he may be by now from his hockey career, I think he still wants at least some more. Then again, I know Roenick did it, but his skill was almost completely diminished when he joined the Sharks. Thornton can still play.

Avs fan here. I could see Jumbo taking a $1M contract a giving it one last go. I have a harder time seeing Lebanc sign for under 3.75, Meier for under 6, and pavs for under 6.5. That’s simply too many haircuts too bring back a team that couldn’t get it done this past go around.

Rumors has it that JT is likely to return. I think he wants to thinking his knees can still last and have that last run. We just don't know how much he wants and what GM Doug Wilson will offer. Now that EK65 is signed, I think the priority order is:

Meier
Labanc
Pavelski or Nyquist
Thornton
(Heed should also be here somewhere)

At least I would hope...

I don't think the Leafs would be that interested in Braun.
