Leafs with Karlsson Signing News

Created by: jmac490
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 18, 2019
Published: Jun. 18, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Braun, Muzz and Hainsey all offer a defensive staple to each defensive pair. Allows for Mo, Rosen and Dermott to be creative, while also costing the Leafs very little.

The Winnipeg Trade may need tweaking, as Perreault isn't as good as he once was, but offers veteran leadership in the locker room with Hainsey, Muzz, Tavares. He has also been a bonafide penalty killer for years, so with sheltered minutes and PK time he should be perfect on the Leafs, and Zaitsev gives Winnipeg their 2nd pair RHD. Logan Stanley can then fill in on the 3rd Pair

San Jose gains cap space and an asset for Braun, while also getting a cheap serviceable 7th DMan

The picks can allow Toronto to trade into the first round if they choose or get roster players/shift cap with those pieces.

As a Sharks fan, I do that deal.

It seems a little tilted in our favor. You guys won't want a 7th dman? I think the pick is enough. DW will want to get 2nd rounders since he doesn't believe in 1sts.

The Perreault for Zaitsev deal has legs but you've got it the wrong way round adding more to what Toronto receives. Perreault is a good middle 6 winger maybe slightly overpaid but not by much, plus he's only got 2 years left. Zaitsev is reasonable depending on your take but certainly not a 1, 2, or 3. He's overpaid by $500k-$1m and have 5 years of that.

What did you think of the Braun deal to Philly? I feel like you won that trade quite well

I think Perreault has fallen out of favour in Winnipeg. He spent a lot of the season on the 4th line, with PK time. Could be the case that others in the lineup purely outplayed him.

I could change the deal to be Perreault + 3rd for Zaitsev + 4th?

Zaitsev can be a decent defender. His first year was pretty good. He also played quite well with Muzzin. I think he gets a lot of heat due to playing with Gardiner and not having the offensive upside that Gardiner has

Most 'urgh'. Don't hate Braun, don't see what he really brings - he's at best likely a 4 or 5 right now but it feels like Fletcher is think solid top 4. Feels like it was a lot to give up too. It increases the chances Ghost is moved which - with how Fletcher has been dealing - feels like he'd sell him cheap.

Maybe - Zaitzev's deal is the kicker though - like Braun he's probably a guy you want as your 5 and 4 when necessary. 5 years at $4.5m is too much cap for that. I don't think he's a bad player, just not good for that money.

Braun is underrated and what he makes is about where he should be (if he resigns). Solid 3/4 guy. I'm surprised we got a second and a third together, but not surprised at the second.

Honestly, both teams win imo.
