the defensive free agent pool is thinning every day now. Because of the Trouba trade, Myers is probably staying too. But I think Stralman and Gardiner are gone.

Not a fan of the two years. The AAV is dirt cheap though.

It's a fine signing. Stand alone...I actually like it quite a bit. It just gets me thinking about direction of the team.

yup defense is going to be at a premium shortly.
I think this is a good deal. However, he's going to be 35 this year. So I don't really think this is a great signing. It's kind of waiting for the wheels to totally fall off stage.

Depth defensive signing and right term and cap hit. Good signing.

I think it's a good signing but I thought a whole bunch of people would be talking about how bad it is.

A good signing in a vacuum, but does Coburn have room on this team?

I think they'd probably like to bring back Stralman and/or Girardi, but obviously Point is a more important signing. They'll probably have to trade someone.

Ah. Still, provided they plan to let Stralman and Girardi walk, then Coburn does still have a role here.

Yes, that's a good reason to sign him as Stralman and Girardi walking (if they both do) makes their blue line worse. So, signing Coburn helps them. They don't have the cap space to sign Point right now, though, so they'll have to make some sort of trade.

The run on defense has begun. Good on Tampa to lock up a depth piece in Coburn before the prices for depth guys start escalating to the absurd.

I'm not sure how much longer he's gonna be able to play after that, but this should work out for Tampa.

It's a decent deal that makes sense for both parties, worst case he gets rotated out of the line-up. With sheltered minutes to be expected he could be useful in a 3rd pairing role still.

Where will Jake Gardiner end up on July 1st? We know he won't be in TOR.

They're going to build on this years performance ... might even win a playoff game next year.

Nah Girardi is obviously not gonna come back. And Stralman neither (would have a bigger cap hit and has been crap this last season. Age is slowing him down a lot).
With Coburn signed, Tampa could already have all the Dcore pieces needed to start the season:

Hedman - Sergachev
McDonagh - Cernak
Coburn - Rutta
Gaunce

I think that BriseBois will explore the eventuality of bringing in a RHD via trade if someone appealing can be obtained at a reasonable price. Otherwise he'll stay put for the D

Cheap-ish depth, shouldn't be a problem unless he completely falls of the face of the earth. I like it.

Part of me wishes the Flyers brought him back. I loved him when we had him last time and he's cheap now.
