Honestly though, I am hoping Shero makes a move for Kappy. Problem is those two are too much to give for him and I am not sure who I'd give up first? Vats has more value. We are similar to you in that we need a top righty and with the smallish D men we have I think we need a big guy (he just went to NY). I am also afraid they move Kreider for a first and give it to Tor for Kappy to be buddies with Kakko. A bunch of KKs on that team would be not OK from a Devs perspective! If Shero were to land a Hamilton type I would retain on Vats to get Kappy as a base for a trade.

For Zacha + Vatanen? We'll add more and try to land Marner.

I really like the idea of trading Vatanen to the Leafs. He's the type of player they can really benefit from. And plus he's only got one year left on his deal.

That said, any deal with the Leafs is going to involve Kapanen going the other way and if the Devils are retaining salary (which they likely would), that complicates things a bit. I'm not SUPER interested in trading Zacha in general either. Devils probably want some kind of a young defenseman coming back to fill out that hole in the organization too. Leafs are fortunate to have a few pretty good players in that area too.

So maybe... something like this:

To NJD: Kapanen, Borgman
To TOR: Vatanen (50% retained), Zacha, 2019 2nd
