I think he can be a top 4 LHD. He’ll probably get a bridge though

I think chiasson is looking for 2-3 mil tho which is an overpayment for a 4th liner

JJ does not cost a 1st to move and I highly doubt the penguins cough up that pick. Lots of people have the penguins taking Raphael Lavoie in the draft. Which frankly makes a lot of sense. 6'4, big fast can score. RW which the penguins have none of in their prospect pool.

Then swap Florida’s 2nd with Ottawa’s 2nd. They’ll still get a really good player at 32nd overall

Giving up a 1st rounder on a prospect starved team just to dump Johnson is the definition of insanity. You're better than this.

I think we're drafting him or Seider. However predicting past the top 10 is kinda hard.

once again, anyone pens draft is not going to help us in the Crosby/malkin era. https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Ryan-Wilson/Penguins-shouldnt-draft-a-player-with-pick-21/177/100027

I can agree with the first two options in that article. I will never agree with the third. Trading a 1st round pick to cut you losses is more dreadful than signing Johnson in the first place.

I don't agree that anyone they draft with the 21st overall pick in this year's draft wont help then in the Crosby-Malkin era. This draft is very deep. It is not out of the question that whoever they get could be NHL ready in 2 or 3 years. Those penguin teams will be in even more need of youth and speed then than they are now.

Exactly. It’s a deep draft. Pens could afford to drop 10 spots (if they get Ottawa’s 2nd) to drop Johnson’s contract. It’s not like they’re “trading a first to drop Johnson”. They’ll still get an early second round pick back. Think of it as a much better Ryan reaves Trade. I would rather Pittsburgh move Johnson another way obviously, but that would be more difficult/unlikely

I was going to reference the Reaves trade before. I was assuming that you were not in favor of that move.

Moving Johnson like that could only make sense to me if there was a very good use for his cap money.

I still think there is a move to be made moving Johnson for another teams bad contract and hope that player is a better fit.

The reaves Trade was brutal but I think this is a better move. I could still see rask for Johnson tbh

people keep saying that but it's not true. You just don't know that. Raphael Lavoie is 6'4 200lbs, big fast, and has good hands. He's the exact type of guy who can come in fast. You aren't talking about a player who needs to add size, strength, etc... He has it and he's a solid skater.
On top of it, losing out on a talent like that in order to move a bad contract is insane. Furthermore, JJ just doesn't cost a 1st to move. Have you seen the run on defense men lately. It's just starting too. Someone out there will take him off their hands because the market is drying up and a lot of teams are still looking for defense.

Ain't that the truth. Hell anything out of the top 3 can usually go all over the place. I'm thinking cole caufield goves top 5. Most people have him top 10 due to size, but he's clearly the best pure goal scorer in the draft.

I don't see the Hawks, Avs or Kings taking Cole Caufield. He screams Oilers. None of these teams are taking a winger honestly.

I don't know, the kings could use help everywhere. In general I have always thought drafting by position is a mistake and leads to reaching. You have to take the best player available, especially at the top of the draft. I don't think there is a better pure goal scorer in the draft. His shot is that good. Lots of accuracy. It's hard to rack up 72 goals in any level of hockey. Hell Mathews only racked up 55 in 4 less games and he went 1st over all and is considered a generational talent. So I'm not sure anyone is going to let this kid drop that low. I would take him.

The Kings might draft Byram or a WHL center. They're a team that would never take a small goal scorer.
