this might work

it address's VGK needs as well as giving Miller a partner he's familiar with to light up PP

its a high cost given Smiths consistency playing with Marchessault in FLA and VGK but if you're taking a cap dump it helps make it barable .

I like it. With all of the forward upgrades Vegas has made i think the loss of Smith is bearable, especially as Tuch/Glass continue to improve. Only problem would be just losing Krug next offseason for nothing. Vegas is super tight on the cap, and Krug will probably want a raise. Don't think VGK would pay more than $7M ish

they could but the bright side is that buy's them a year to see if Schuldts a solution .
if not i see them moving out a guy like Mcnabb to dump a Haula so they can re-sign Krug to 2-3 year deal

Krugs better off staying with VGK and getting more money over less time as long term deals in the cap era see guys forced out to clear cap . a Guy like Alzner coulda easily played on a half dozen NHL teams as a bottom pair Hits/BS leader but his cap and term screw teams to hard to let him even though he's capable .

VGK is flashy enough to possibly wooo Krug into a 3 year commitment to win a cup

Krug trade above is not enough for krug. why would the bruins trade and RETAIN his salary as well as take eakins salary and buy that out? makes zero sense from cap perspective as the bruins.

If you can move Backes' contract you have a lot of room and should use that to get a top 6 RW. The UFA options aren't great so I'd rather trade for one. Krug is the best trade chip they have and Smith is a good return for Krug. Eakin is because Vegas has cap problems, maybe you get a pick as well but Vegas fans think this is about even.

Right but if bruins are sending out at 60+point defenseman/ a guy that GENERATES pp opportunities while also eating half his salary, im not taking reilly smith as comp. Krug put up 53 points in 64 games (.83per game) thats good for 7th best points as a defenseman in the nhl if he plays all 82 (assuming letang and karlsson also play all 82 they had higher ppg numbers while missing similar amounts of games as krug). Im saying Boston would laugh at vegas if they offered this deal. To summarize you can get more for Krug without having to eat his salary and take a cap dump at the same time.

He’s UFA next year and unless he signs a big discount they’re losing him. This is a chance to get a good winger for him, the retention doesn’t matter as they’d have the space.

So because they might not resign him they should just give him away at a massive discount in a trade? not happening.

1. What would you do with Krug? Sign him, trade, or let him walk?
2. Would you do Krug for Smith straight up?

i would trade krug. But im not trading krug for reilly smith. Reilly smith has 100% benefit from being on the top line 2 years ago and top 6 last year. I dont personally think reilly smith is worth his current contract nevermind worth a top 10 offensive defenseman in the league. I would do it for tuch. I would consider marchessault. Im not touching reilly smith.
