Oilers - Defense Fix

Created by: KDK_1983
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 18, 2019
Published: Jun. 18, 2019

Description
The Oilers need to significantly upgrade their D in order to be competitive. Regardless of the forwards they sign or trade for, they won't have any success until the team is able to significantly decrease defensive zone time and transition the puck out of their zone. All trades below significantly improve that.

From an Oilers fan well done. Shattenkirk doesnt have the oilers on his no trade list. he was the target for taylor hall and he declined the trade. Detroit deal would be great but i think you may have to throw yamamoto over jesse to get that done

Thanks funny, NYC boy Shattenkirk waiving his NTC for Edmonton. Yep Wings trade 30 goal scorer AA, for a minor leaguer and a pick.

How do you figure that Edmonton isn't on Shattenkirk's no trade list? He said no to Edmonton because he didn't want to play there or in Canada. He wanted to remain in the States period. Pretty much all of his no trade list are Canadian teams.

I understand your perspective regarding AA, but if you remember the negotiations from last year they didn't exactly go smoothly so there were signs he may not be happy in Detroit. The caveat to this would be that Holland may have had something to do with it, so that would change things.

In regards to Shattenkirk, I know Edmonton wasn't on his list previously....but it's clear that NYR are moving on and his options are basically to accept a trade and reinvigorate his career OR get bought out and see what happens from there....either way it's fairly clear he'll probably be playing elsewhere next season.

I love how this comes up with out anything that happened this year. AA not being able to play center is where it started Blashill told him he had to be better on the defensive side of the puck to play center and they butted heads over it. AA worked on his defense in the offseason and into training camp. He started at wing and earned more playing time and from there he was moved to center. Thats when his game really stepped up on both sides of the puck. When Larkin was hurt Blashill turned to AA to pick up the slack and he did. Blashill has even told the media here Detroit he is Detroit's #2 center. That being said and that is was Holland that made the negotiations order than it had to be. It seems you only understand a part of the situation. Plus why would he go to Edmonton to play wing? When it is why the friction started in the first place.

Holland seemed to have short changed AA last contract for cap reasons...so be it. AA is an RFA...doesn't really matter what he wants or if things doesn't go smoothly. What are a players options? Wait for an offer sheet or play in Europe.
Hard to believe Oilers aren't on any most players "no trade to list". Shat is a New Yorker, has plays in the favourable Atlantic. 99% he isn't to playing for a poor team that is going to stay poor, and with the worse travel schedule in the league, never mind the winters, though lots of other teams have iffy weather.

I think Detroit tries to resign AA, Bertuzzi and Mantha. before the season starts.

They are RFAs....unless you want to set a player free as UFA, teams sign their own RFAs. Even the Leafs, Tampa, San Jose will likely sign all their RFAs and be over the cap....then they trade some of their players, not necessarily the RFAs to get to be cap compliant.
