Cause of the RFA status of both Kappanen and AJ ,Teams are able to make offers that exceed the amount youre giving them. Alot of teams are willing to go up the $4M on kapanen cause he's a solid, young 2nd line winger. as for AJ I don't see him going to that high but, I'd see him going 3-3.5M. Now Marner is a different story. 9.8M could've possibly worked but, after the Hayes albatross that was just signed, Duchene and Marner will be asking more $ $. That's why I think it's just not possible to keep all the main guys without offloading a few contracts or making trades with the guys that Toronto can't afford to at least get something back
