Trades
1.
NYI
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi [RFA Rights]
  2. Marleau, Patrick ($2,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Lou reluctantly takes the cap hit for Marleau (minus 2.5 million retained), saving the Leafs some 6-7 million in cap space by adding Kapanen in the deal. Islanders agree to buy him out so he can be a free-agent and head out west. NY tried to get Toronto to take on Hickey, but they pass and retain the 2.5 million instead
TOR
  1. 2020 4th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Islanders also send a 2020 fourth round pick (instead of a 2nd rounder which is what an offer sheet on Kapanen would have cost) with the agreement that they buyout Marleau

Try reading where it says "cap is 5-10 million under"- I listed so many players to show our depth

Idiotic to suggest losing Flip/Lee is WORSE than gaining Kapanen/Tartar and Dzingle....yes, it cost Leddy (but we have Aho/Dobson waiting in the wings) but it is going to cost something to improve. Both suggestions in your comment is ****

1- It says you have -$2,533,887 of Cap Space.
2- You have 21 forwards - 7 lines? squinting with tongue out
3- I'd rather Lee over Tatar - BUT LEDDY for Tartar is a good deal.
4- Dzingle is not as good at Center than Filpula is, Filpula is an amazing penalty killer. I keep Filpula for Cheaper. Also, you'd have to sign Dzingle longer term, which doesn't free up money for Barzal next season.
5- Kapanen is not a bad try, but he is a RFA and that ship has sailed. Maple Leafs will keep him.

1. I explain in my comments why I made 7 lines- to show depth
2. Obviously I am not over the cap because I did that
3. I too would rather have Lee, but I do think the Leddy for Tartar makes sense
4. Can't argue with this too much, I also wouldn't mind Flip back, but I would probably move Cizikas up to the third line if that was the case
5. More than likely, if they are keeping Marner- one of Kapanen or Jonsson will still be traded, the fact they signed them is irrelevant
