Why would either Callahan or DET do this? I've actually seen this trade a few times and I just don't get it.

Callahan+Gourde aren't worth 2 2nds Callahan by himself doesn't net Tampa more then a 6th rounder. And Gourde doesn't make up that kind of value. Maybe a 3rd+4th if you're lucky.

Buffalo would take that or something similar if Detroit wants to complain about it.

Detroit wouldn't? Callahan has been linked to Detroit and a few other teams. I guess with Yzerman as GM maybe Cally would waive to go there. If he knew Detroit would deal him at the TDL.

I guess I just think differently. He's earned every right to win a cup and there's zero guarantee that after he gets traded...he gets traded back to a TOP contender like TBL. He deserves the chance and earned his options/choices/clauses. If TBL wants to buy him out...that's probably a better option than being traded if I'm Callahan. That way He can choose his destination and the contract amount. Then again, maybe a Orpik situation occurs again?

Gotta think the motivation for Callahan to waive his NMC from Tampa is the "promise" that he will dealt at the deadline to a contender. Why does Callahan waive?, well he might be bought out by Tampa, so many be he wants to play one more year.

Exactly what i'm thinking as well, Read an article somewhere that said that Yzerman nearly dealt Callahan to Detroit. But for some reason it was scratched not sure if Cally refused to waive for Detroit. Or if it was that Yzerman felt he was going to be Detroit's next GM and just decided to do a deal this summer. Not really sure the details. But could see Cally waiving for Detroit with assurance that he's dealt at the TDL next winter.

Doubt Yzerman has any interest in adding Yanni Gourde with Ryan Callahan, Pretty sure it's either JT Miller or Taylor Raddysh that he'd be interested in.

Gourde fits at Detroit .. Yzwrman WILL be making changes.. small quick forwards and large D.. that is his formula.. Callahan will be an A right away and be leader for 1 year..
