Eakin had more points and has 1 year left on his contract (its not an unreasonable contract). He can play wing and centre and be traded at the end of the year for picks... very doable

Possibly more if that salary cap is less the 83 million as some are reporting, so trading Reaves maybe even at a loss might be required ... these trades seem fine though.

Ottawa decline hard. Who's going to replace DeMelo on first pair? Tierney just got 48 points and is needed for the next year or 2 to let the kids develop. Ceci is worth the 2019 2nd alone. Both Clarkson and Holden are cap dumps. If you take DeMelo out of the trade, maybe.

Coleman is the better player – by a lot in my opinion. Eakin put up his numbers on a GREAT Vegas team, while Coleman put his up on a TERRIBLE New Jersey squad. Coleman plays in all situations – he's one of the best penalty killers on the team and got some power play time at the end of the season. Coleman is also younger, cheaper, and is locked in for 2 more years VS Eakin's 1.

I don't think Blake Coleman is going anywhere for a while, unless someone overpays. Cody Eakin ain't it.

The way I see it here is Ottawa getting rid of a defence (ceci) who is consistently -30. I know there a trash team lol but its time to move on from him. and demelo is a 3rd pair defence playing first and 1 year left. Holden is not a terrible contract and can still be valuable and tierny is 1 year left so why not get something for him before he wants to leave. Ottawa also does need to hit the salary floor so this cap dump is needed, comes with a 1st and 2nd round pick too

Fair.

The way I saw it here tho is that jersey gets a decent 3rd line center who also plays in all situations, and can trade if they dont make the playoffs(likely) for a 3rd round pick. Coleman has 2 more years and on a crappy team like that his value will just continue to decrease if his pints dont increase.

But I see your point because I think coleman has a great contract!

Ceci has never been -30 and has value. I don't like him either but teams are always in need of a RHD. DeMelo has already proven himself better than a 3rd pairing Dman. He was one of Ottawa's best defenseman in a terrible year. You're shipping out 2 RHD and not bringing back a single one. Who's gonna play the right side? Tierney is also an RFA and has never said he wants to leave..
