Gaudreau and Marner is very close, but with the Gaudreau contract, Gaudreau > Marner. Marner is looking for 11M and I don't think Calgary will want it!!

In this NHL age where the salary cap is so restrictive - value contracts like Gaudreau's are simply too valuable to trade away for a player of relatively equal value skill wise. I would never trade JG for Marner straight up simply because that $4M could be used for the next Lindholm or Hanifin type contract! I agree the same can be said for the Kadri / Hamonic swap but the difference there is not enough to offset $4M in cap space.
