Zaitsev

Created by: Rooney

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 19, 2019
Published: Jun. 19, 2019

Description
I've never seen anyone propose a Zaitsev to Winnipeg scenario...after losing Trouba would it be the worst thing in the world to acquire Zaitsev, who can eat up a ton of minutes and a sweetener to do so?

Is this a stupid idea or could this work lol?

Jets is moving their assets extremely cheap in order to save money. Hence they won't be actually adding players like Zaitsev...that's just wasting the money.

I think the only reasonable Zaitsev move for WPG is to move Perreault in exchange to him. 1-on-1 it could work.

I would be very honest here buddy.. Zaitsev to Winnipeg is good idea. I dont wanna sound silly but with new contracts for everybody, Zaitsevs contract is of great value for GMs. It has kinda okey cap hit and it has term which is for them important. Brown add to him would possibly cost a little more than 5th tbh, maybe some prospect at C or G, possibly Comrie.. but all in all its good idea. And trade Brown for pick, use cheaper depth guys to fill bottom-6 roles.

Right? That is what I was thinking too. Although I never really thought of anything like this before, something COULD potentially be there. Thanks!

I'm assuming you're a Winnipeg fan Rooney.. And as a fellow Canadian Hockey fan, with no animosity towards Winnipeg or its fans, trust me when I say this. You do not want Zaitsev. You're welcome.

Hahaha, I am! With all honesty, I can't say I've ever really watched Zaitsev play all the much so I'll take your word for it! Maybe there is a reason I haven't seen any Zaitsev to Winnipeg proposals lol tears of joy

I think the proposal has some merit, but probably need a third team, that possibly could retain on zaitzev and I probably wouldn’t slot him as high, and hope that him or pionk play into some major minute eaters, as buffy ages

Offersheet crap is bluff. No offersheets would happen. There are 3 RFAs better than him who deserves 10+ more than him.

Please direct me to the source where he said he won't take less than 10 lol. He had a down season compared to his other 2. They're not gonna bridge him to 8 or 9 million that's not how it works. 6-6.5 if it's a bridge deal is my prediction.

I don’t remember where I saw it but I’ll come back to this when he signs or accepts an offer sheet

Honest question, on a bridge deal, should it go that route what do you think Laine makes? I am hoping he signs long term for around 9-9.5 but we will see.

Thats the problem laine had 50 points last season which isn’t bad and has over 100 career goals I don’t see him accepting a bridge deal I think he would rather accept an offer sheet for 7x9/10 than a 2x6. Which if a team offer sheets for 10mil and Winnipeg doesn’t match it’s only 2 1st a 2nd and a 3rd which is good for a 21yo with 3 30+ goal seasons I could easily see Carolina going that route

I would rather a long term deal with Winnipeg as well. The only reason I could see a bridge is because to his standards, last year was a down year for him with inconsistent play. I still think a long term deal gets done around 9.5. If a team were to offer sheet him at 10 mil, Winnipeg would match no doubt. Either way, I am hoping a deal gets done sooner rather than later lol.

Yeah I hope he signs too but all I was saying earlier is he won’t take 6mil when someone will offer him 10mil and like you said Winnipeg will match so he’s making his money either way

Very true! I think I was being too optimistic with my bridge deal proposal hahaha
